I,ve got a Athlon 1.2ghz cpu and a ECS K7S5A mother board. After installing
the board and the cpu I can only get it to run stable at 900.There doesnt
seem to be a lot of adjustments on the board itself and there is a "CPU PnP"
setting in the bios. If I set that to run at 1200 it starts to run hot and
therefore becomes unstable. Has anybody got any ideas how to get this thing
to run at 1200? Do you think a better heatsink and fan will allow it to run
at 1200. Any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks in advance,
Note: @ 900 runs at 55-60 degrees
@ 1200 runs at +75 degrees

supply is plugged fully onto the mobo. I had the same problem when I built
my last system and a friend and I were both stumped for about 45 minutes.
We changed out the cpu fan and the temps actually went higher. It was just
plain anal retentiveness that made us recheck all the seatings on the mobo.
Good luck.

power-on and clear cmos. The board is supposed to auto-detect the cpu. Make
sure it has properly identified it. You can hit page-up at boot to get a
default setting for the cpu. Otherwise, all you can really change is the
frontside bus speed.

settings I may have missed or do not know about?
Other than the settings in the bios I cant seem to find any.

Definitely check that the heat sinc is making good contact with the CPU
before turning it back on. 75C (167F) is way too hot - unless you're
planning to fry some eggs on it. Try using some heat transfer grease on
it or maybe a different CPU cooler. What cooler are you using - I like
the GlobalWin FOP-32 and the Volcano-II for Athlons above 900Mhz.
Good Luck
