Is the dvd a recorder? If not a recorder only a player then it has no input. You need to connect the dish satellite to your tv and the dvd player too. That way you can see the tv channels from the satellite and the player too. Connect the satellite to the coaxial cable /if possible/ and the dvd player to the RCA connection /or S-cart, depending which one you have on your TV/. Make sure the satellite and the dvd player are not connected.

Hi!

Please tell me do you want to record the programs by the dvd player/recorder or you want to just connect dvd player and dish cable box both with your tv.

You can use component cables to do this.

The dvd needs to be connected to the tv then just turn the dvd to the satellite channel and you should have picture there.

even an old tv will have an av setting. its for scart plugs. if you use scart the you need to use the av channel.
if not the box will run through your dvd player channel or can be retuned to do so through your telly.

Assuming you are connected via AV Jacks ( yellow whit and red rca cables) your TV needs to be on the corresponding AV input. Usually accessed via the input button on the remote

If the entire VHS is full then you can easily transfer the VHS contents to the DVD. The video will play while it is recording onto the DVD, but you don't have to have it hooked up to any TV for it to record. Now if you don't know how long the VHS content is that you want to record to DVD, then you will have to hook up the player to a TV so that you can press stop when you reach the end of the content you want recorded. At least this is true in the way that I use to transfer VHS to DVD:

1) Turn on the unit
2) Insert VHS tape
3) Insert DVD-+R or DVD-+ RW
4) Using remote, press VCR
5)Using remote, press play then pause the tape where you want to start recording.
6)Using remote, press DVD
7) Using the remote, press DUBBING. The VHS should start to play and the DVD should start recording

When using this method, don't hit the RECORD button!

I hope this helps!

How do I hook up the DR420 directly from cable input to TV. The coax hookup on back of the unit is slip on, but not a regular one fits. limited instructions came with it. I need the right connector and...

Take the unit in to a place like radio shack and have them find the correct cable you need. Make sure you know what connection you need for the TV. this may require a special plug but I would not expect that, there are a ton of different connection cables for different units.
Connect to the component outputs on the back of the dish receiver. This is the output for TV1. Then conncect the ouput of the dvd dr420 to your TV. I am using the HDMI output on the dr420 to connect to an HDMI port on my tv. This results in a 1080p picture on the TV which is sharper than the 1080i from the dish receiver's HDMI cable. My Sony TV has multipe HDMI ports so I can choose betweeen these 2 inputs and can see the differance since Dish only sends 1080p on it's pay for view channels

I have a rca dvd recorder+vcr combo drc8320n i want to set up watching/changing cabletv channels on the dvd remote. i have tried buying universal remotes cheap& expensive but they no longer work on my

With cable input connected to "RF in"on rear of unit make sure vidoe input is set to "Tuner". This will show up on the TV screen. Change channels numerically or using up/down arrow keys on DVR remote. Note there is a slight pause between changing channels. You probably will have to "autoscan" for channel setup/etc. If you say your TV set is old; it probabaly is equiped with coax
connection only/set TV channel to "3" or "4". when yot opt to play vcr/dvd it will override your
cable channel selected. Hope this helps!

Can't use dvd on tv

when you hooked this up did you hook to the t.v directly? the dish receiver directly? or do you have surround sound system and hook through it. If you have a menu button on your tv then hit it, scroll to channel listings, once there you will be prompted to start selecting channels scroll down the channels to where it says video then select, that might work or least it does for me anyways. what type of tv do you have that could help me also. good luck let me know if i can help in any way

Connecting DVD to cable only TV and Modulator box and Dish Networ

Without knowing the actual ports on each of these devices, all I can suggest is that have you tried connecting your DVD to the Dish box (thru VCR scart connection at the back of the Dish box) and then the Dish box into your modulator (and then modulator into your tv.

I have a similar system set up but we have a Sky Digital box here, no idea if its the same as a Dish box but im assuming so.

How to record ?

I don't know a whole lot about electronic equipment, but I've never seen anything connected in so many ways at the same time. Maybe the antenna and one other type of connection. The different signals from all the connections are probably confusing each other. I would try one connection at a time to see if the problem improves. Good Luck.
