When turned on dryer tumbler makes a metal on metal scraping sound?

Most dryers glide on felt. Either the felt has worn out (not very likely) or something has gotten between the drum and the felt. Could be anything from loose change to jewelry...anything that made it into the dryer from a pocket

Can't get front of cabinet to fit back into the drun

The drum actually sits on the felt to prevent the metal grinding against metal

Wed6200sw works fine except its making metal draging sound

you'll have to take it apart and check the rollers and pulley and also check around the front of the drum, there's a felt seal there that i've found the drum cuts through it or something could be stuck in the felt, pull out the lint filter and remove the two screws in front of it,then get a screw driver and stick it in between the top cover and the front panel around two inches from the corner and pop up the top cover, check the drum to see if it looks like something is rubbing against it.if so unplug the dryer, disconnect the wire connector on the right side, and remove the two 5/16 inch screws that hold the front panel on.watch video

also while you have it apart vac it out.if nothing wrong with felt you can buy a kit with the belt, rollers and pulley to change them out,one of these should be your problem but metal on metal i would check the felt seal first.hope this helps and good luck.

Dryer is scraping as it turns. Is there a belt that is worn? Started doing it after 3rd load. Did the same last time we used it.

The dryer drum is suspended between the front panel and the back panel by extrusions that protrude into the front and rear of the drum. There are thick felt pads attached to the protrusions that support the drum and isolate the metal of the drum from the metal of the front and rear panel protrusions, allowing the drum to rotate freely. A large belt encircles the drum and a pulley attached to a motor mounted under the drum. A spring "thing" applies tension to the belt to prevent the belt from slipping. If the noise is a metal on metal sound, check the condition of the felts. Other causes of noise have been stretched belt slipping on drum, weak spring "thing" not keeping belt tight, motor bearings dry (oil) or worn (replace motor), and pulley on spring "thing needs lube (lube). Hope this helps.

Kenmore Dryer 110 is making a loud squeaking noise.

Only a few things will make that noise. The squeaking is caused by a moving part having trouble turning while rubbing against a fixed part.
  1. The idler pulley is worn
  2. The drum support rollers are hard turning on their shafts
  3. The felt seals at the front or back of the drum is worn allowing metal to metal contact while turning
  4. An article has fallen into the housing around the blower wheel and the wheel is rubbing on it.
Listen for the frequency of the sound. The drum rollers and drum felts will squeak at the frequency of the tub turning. The idler pulley turns much faster as does the blower wheel. Knowing this will help pin down the cause.

Loud rattling noise, but dries ok

The drum of a dryer is supported b the front and back of the unit, spins on a felt gasket. Noise is coming from rollers or their is something stuck between drum and the felts. The pulley is a piece of springy metal with a plastic wheel on it, could also be worn. If you take off front of dryer, drum will come loose, check to see if something is stuck. Common for loose change to get jambed in felts. Also spin rollers and pulley to see if need to be replaced. I still think something is caught in felt.

My GE Profile DPSE810 Electic Dryer has started making a scraping noise when the drum rotates. What could be causing the scraping? It makes the noise even if I take out all the clothes and there is nothing...

Told by several GE Service Techs that the noise is normal metal expansion & nothing can be done. Anyone else have this issue?
First dryer in over 40 years we ever heard this type of noise.

GE GAS DRYER DDE7500G

Can you push the drum up and down. If so then the main bearing has gone bad and needs to be replaced. This is the only metal on metal rubbing you will get unless the machine is off balanced. This is caused usually by doing to heavy of loads and wearing out the bearing

My dryer squeeks when running

Hi, I've had a similar problem (I think) on my MDG7400 dryer. There was a cyclical squeak, metal against metal. It turned out to be the screw that holds the drum paddle to the drum. It had worked itself loose and was scraping against the inside wall of the dryer. Remove the front door lift the top, and tighten 'er up. Hope that helps.

Dryer

That is an accurate description
the drum of all dryers is suspended from a combination of
felt pads at the drum ends
nylon glides under the drum
rubber tired thrust rollers.
the rubber tires wear, and the drum shifts, this pinches and wears the felts, then there is enough space to pinch the clothes in the gap
It is a simple enough fix, and well worthwhile, felts glides and rollers are cheap in comparison to new dryers.
Generically all dryers are pretty much the same, so when you go to the parts store, the felts rollers and glides may be labelled whirlpool or kenmore
they will fit exactly, there are very few that fit very many models.

To do the job
  • UNPLUG DRYER
  • If a top mounted lint screen, remove lint screen and 2 screws under lint screen from top of case
  • with a putty knife or other blunt blade release spring clips at front corners of lid, retaining lid to front panel
  • tilt lid up
  • remove 1screw each side 1/3 way down front
  • disconnect door switch wires
  • remove front panel and door
  • pull tensioner to end of its travel against tensioner spring, and unhook belt
(Note:: position of belt around tensinoer and motor pulleys for reinstall)
  • pull drum out forwards
  • motor, pulleys, support rollers, felts, and glides can now be inspected
good roller
3d57115.jpg bad roller
7133e59.jpg rollers are in pairs, if one is worn replace both

Inspect felts and nylon glides where fitted, any wear - replace

to replace felts
requirements 2 or more pairs locking pliers(visegrips) hitemp silicone adhesive
  • pull old felt off
  • scrape off old adhesive
  • spread gllue on drum edge
  • secure felt on drum with visegrip
  • pull felt into place, clip with visegrip, pull again clip with visegrips, work around until felt is attached to drum and clipped in place
  • allow glue to set
nylon glides, if fitted replace easily, a central screw, or glue

reassemble in reverse order
