Tray 2 stuck will not come out, no paper in the tray?

I have the same problem. I am also a field tech and there is nothing obstructing the printer that I can find. I am wondering if it is a gear or something else falling down in the track? Can't find a solid suggestion for a fix.

Same problem here too. We've tried to feel the obstruction with a thin letter opener, also with the printer on its side, can't get it to unblock.

Getting desperate, we put the printer on its side and exerted quite some force on the tray by one person pulling from the front and the other pushing the back. The tray slid forward for 10cm after which we could see a say 5mm but stiff pack of paper bending the rear paper holder. Apparently that pack got stuck in front against the roof of the tray, perhaps pushing against the rollers there, preventing sliding the tray to the front. We pulled out the paper, slid the tray completely out, bend back the rear paper holder, problem solved.
Good luck!

You possiblely have something loose in the tray or something broke. Find something metal and thin, like a hack saw blade, and stick it through the slot between the drawer and printer and see if you can feel the obstruction, and if so try to move it out of the way. Something is catching on the printer frame and drawer.

Tray 1 doesn't feed while tray 2 has paper, after I empty the paper from tray 2, tray 1 work fine.

if you setup tray 1 any type, any size and tray 2 to plain, and letter size, it will allow you to use tray 2 for your plain letter jobs but will pull from the manual feed tray first only if the paper is in the manual feed tray if this makes any sense to you... please mark this as a fixya...

When you click Print then right click on your HP ptinter - click Properties - Paper Quality tab - click Paper source and select Tray 2 - Click OK - then OK to print.
You can change the paper type in Tray 2 into Tray 1 and vice versa to save going into Properties to change the Tray selection.

What does error 60.03 mean?

This has to do with the paper lifter for tray three. There could be any number of problems with the lifter or tray;

1. incorrect paper size - i.e. someone loaded letter in the tray that is mannually set to legal and didn't change the manual paper slider to letter or papers stuck in the tray,

2. manual paper lifter isn't working properly, motor spring could be broken or out of place,

3. the paper tray could be broken and you will need to replace the tray.

First check that the correct size paper is loaded properly in the tray and that there is no paper detritis stuck anywhere. If the tray has the correct paper and there is not paper detritis then swap tray 2 and 3, reboot the printer and see if the problem moves with the tray - it should become a 60.02 error. If this happens then it is a tray issue. If you still get a 60.03 error then it is a tray 3 lifter motor issue, here is a link that explains what needs to be done.

A lot of the time there is a loud pronounced clicking or banging also associated with the problem. The noise happens during the paper pathway test shortly after you turn the printer on and will display the 60.xx error code instead of the ready status.

Need to change paper default tray from tray one to tray two

This can be done by modifying the printing preferences on your computer.

Go to the "printers and faxes" folder from the "start menu". Right click the printer and go to properties. Then go to the "paper" tab and locate the option to change the tray.

Default paper tray selection for HP LaserJet 4200tn

1) When the printer receives a print job, it selects the tray by trying to match the requested paper type and size with what has been loaded in the trays. Using an “autoselect” process, it searches all available trays for the paper that satisfies the request, starting with the bottom tray and ending with the top tray (tray 1). The printer begins printing the job as soon as it finds the proper type/size.

2) If paper is loaded in tray 1 and tray 1 is set "TRAY 1 TYPE=ANY" and "TRAY 1 SIZE=ANY" on the
Paper Handling menu, the printer will always pull paper from tray 1 first.

Printer will not kick out document automatically, attention lite keeps flashing. tray 2 selected but always defaults back to tray 1

Sounds like you have a mismatch in the paper you are trying to print on and the paper that is loaded in the printer. HP printers look to feed paper from tray 1 anytime the computer settings don't match the paper loaded in tray 2. Tray 1 is the multi purpose tray and prety much any size paper can be loaded in tray 1. Double check your document settings and double check the paper size loaded in the paper tray 2 and make sure they match. Also try printing a different document to see if the error persists. If it does this on everything you try to print you should also double check teh rear guide in the paper tray. There is a rear guide in paper tray 2. If it slides back too far it will make the printer think that paper longer than 8 1/2 x 11 is loaded. Push the paper all the way forward in the tray and push the rear guide until it is snug with the tail end of the paper stack.

Paper feed problem from both tray 1 & 2

There is a long set of sensor flags on the bottom of the paper input unit that can get stuck and not move freely. This will cause jams from both trays. Try unplugging the printer, removing the toner cartridges and tray 2. Turn the printer on its back or side. You will see a long, black plastic bar with flags on it that runs the length of the paper input unit. make sure it moves freely.

tray 2 has a little piece of cardboard that can easily be overlooked. you'll probably have to pull it out by sticking your hand in the back of the printer, tray 2. can't be done from the front because the cardboard piece keeps tray 2 stuck, and gives paper jam errors.
