Map light removal on a 2008 Ford f350

How do you remove the map light on a 2008 Ford f350? The vehicle has a sunroof and the two map lights are surrounded by an oval-shaped, plastic trim ring. I pull down on the ring but it feel like it is about to snap. I believe that it is held in place by some platic clips and I don't want to snap them off. The rear dome light went quickly. The map light seems to be a bit more involved and delicate.

I had the same issue with my 2008 w/ moonroof. It's tough but you just have to evenly apply pressure on both sides and pull it straight down. There's two pressure clips that are holding it. I replaced with LEDS, the rear was tough as well!

In the shop manual it states on vehicle with roof opening to :
Pull the interior lamp down and remove the lamp from the retaining clips.

On one without the roof opening it states to remove the lens then Release the 2 retaining clips (through the access holes) and remove the interior lamp.

How do i manually close my 2005 elantra sunroof?

If this is the factory sunroof try finding the motor crank in the glove box and removing the plug in the headliner between the rear view mirror and the sunroof. Insert the crank (it is an hex wrench) and crank the roof closed.
If you have the dome/map lights pry out the lens of the light and remove the screws behind the lens to remove the overhead console and in the sunglass holder.
The motor is at the front of the roof and you can crank at the center of the motor drive.

Mazda3 Sunroof Adjustments & Repairs

Folks -

The "gearbox" is unfortunately under the headliner with no easy access. If you are also experiencing a clicking sound when the motor is activated, the regulator track had slipped position and will need to be reset.

Removing the map light assembly (process below) may help in your initial diagnosis, you can feel the motor mounting screws and the motor assembly to determine if their loose.

IMAGE WONT POST, SORRY

I have been through this problem twice now. The first time the motor / gearbox came loose from it's mounts, began slipping (click, click, click), very nasty sound. I remounted the motor with threadlock on the NEW ALLEN HEAD screws, but alas.. two years later (mine's 2006) it slipped again.. I need to drop the headliner once more and have a look. If you would like a copy of your 05/06 FSM, drop me a line.

Here's the RESET procedure from the FSM, absolutely gospel, no other way to fix it:

Sunroof Motor Assembly Note:

Note
• If the guide is removed, initial position setting of the sunroof motor will be required. After installing the sunroof unit, perform initial position setting using the following procedure.

1. Press the TILT UP switch to fully tilt up the glass panel.

2. When the glass panel reaches the fully tilt up position, temporarily release the TILT UP switch and press it again for approx. 13 s continuously. Continue pressing the switch until the glass panel automatically stops at the fully tilt up position after reaching the mechanical lock position.

3. When the glass panel stops at the fully tilt up position, temporarily release the TILT UP switch, then press it again within 5 s and hold.
Note

• Press the TILT UP switch continuously until the glass panel opens to the fully open position, returns to the fully closed position and then stops.

4. Release the TILT UP switch when the glass panel stops at the fully closed position.

ALSO, Here's the clearance adjustment specs for having the glass panel in the correct resting position:

GLASS PANEL ADJUSTMENT

1. Fully close the glass panel.

2. Measure the gap and height difference between the glass panel and the body.

3. Loosen the glass panel installation screws and move the glass panel to adjust.

Standard clearance a: 0.2-2.2 mm {0.008-0.08 in} b: 0 mm {0 in}
4. Tighten the screws.

5. Insert any available thin plastic card between the weatherstrip and the body, and verify that they are sealed. (There is resistance when the plastic card is moved.)

• If they are not sealed, perform Steps 3-4 and adjust again.

MAP LIGHT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.

2. Insert a tape-wrapped flathead screwdriver into the gap between the headliner and the map light.

3. Press the tab and remove the map light.

4. Disconnect the map light connector.

5. Remove the socket, then remove the map light bulb.

6. Install in the reverse order of removal.

SUNROOF UNIT DISASSEMBLY/ASSEMBLY

1. Disassemble in the order indicated in the table.

2. Assemble in the reverse order of disassembly.

Have a 2006 Subaru Outback wagon with sunroof. How do I drop the overhead control panel to access the sunroof switch, reading lights, etc.

disconnect the negative battery post before doing electrical work to avoid any hazards. next get a small flat screw driver to remove the map light lenses see the pic below. there are indents to fit the tip of the screw driver. then you can access the mounting screws. if your car has the sunglasses holder open it and remove the other mounting screws to remove the unit

On subaru impreza 2008. the key remote stopped working and map light dont work. back up fuse keeps blowing every time i plug one it.

Fuse kept blown means your wires are shorted to ground somewhere in the remote control module or your map light. Since when you press the remote the map light also turns on, I'd try something simple first. Remove the map light BULB from the circuit to check if that circuit is the issue to isolate the problem.

How to replace map & dome light bulbs on a 2008 Ford F-150 Super

2008 Ford F-150 SuperCrew Cab (without moon roof or rails): How to replace the map light bulbs.  First, you'll need a "trim pad remover."  It is a tool with a screwdriver handle and the metal part has a 'smooth' forked tongue (see Snap-on Stock#: A177A for picture).  Go to the center counsel and "gingerly" work around he counsel and pull down at the same time.  The counsil is held in by six snap in tongs.  It should remove pretty easily.  once down, you'll see where the bulbs are.  Unscrew and replace.  Now, just line up the tongs and gently bump or hit the pressure points (where the tongs are) and it should snap into place.  It should take no more than five minutes, tops.
