SOUNDS LIKE EITHER THE INVENTER BOARD IS PLAYING UP OR THE POWER SUPPLYBOARD,LOOK FOR FAULTY CAPACITORS.ITS THE BACKLIGHT THAT LETS YOU SEE WHAT IS BEING SHOWN ON THE LCD SCREEN BY LIGHTING IT UP,IF YOU LOOKED CAREFULLY OR SHOWN A TORCH ON IT YOU WOULD SEE THE SCREEN.SOMETIMES IF YOU MANAGE TO TURN THE BACKLIGHT DOWN A BIT BY TURNING DOWN THE BRIGHTNESS ON TV,THE BACKLIGHT WILL COME ON AGAIN,IT IS CUTTING OUT DUE TO LACK OF POWER OR FAULTY CAPACITORS ON THE PSB.DO SOME GOOGLE SEARCHING,GOOD LUCK

Hello
Just check whether there is any trace of picture [will be ver dark indeed]; can be seen on screen. Do a close watch and inform me. As far as sound is OK, there must be a dark shadow of picture on screen. I can post a solution to your tVs trouble only after get this information. OK.

Sound but no picture

Most likely you have an inverter problem. The inverter powers the backlights so that the picture can be seen. You can try holding a flashlight close to the front of the screen in a dark room and if you can see any trace of a picture, the backlights are not lit. This can be a pretty hot circuit to work with. Have a shop check it out for you. Thanks for using fixya.

No picture sometimes

If the screen is still lit up then it's your lcd controller which will cause the screen to just be lit up but blank. If the screen does not stay lit up then it's your backlight inverter(s) in this case you should be able to hold a flashlight up and still see the picture on the screen just very dark.

I have a JVC LT-32x38 that turns on and displays an image for a second but then goes blank and outputs sounds only.

Sometimes the picture goes out but the screen is still lit(backlight on), if totally dark like TV was turned off then check voltages in the power supply board(24v, 12v, 5v) if all ok replace the inverter.

It was working fine then no picture dark sceen sound work fine

More information is required. Your backlight is lit (screen not dark) but I need to know what you have connected to the TV (your sources) and how they are connected. Does the menu/OSD (on screen display) work?

Sound but no picture

Is this an LCD set? if so...

Try the set with the inverter unplugged and if you get sound its almost certainly the inverter. You might also see a very dark picture as the screen will be working but the backlight wont be lit.

Be very carefull with the inverter, theres some high voltages there.

If its not LCD I think we would need to know the model.

Dark screen

if the picture is REALLY dark, like you can just barely see it in a lit room, then the backlight might not be lit. LCD TVshave backlight that shines through the LCD screen which allows you to see the picture.

If it's not the backlight then it would be the brightness/contrast settings that need to be adjusted. If the picture used to be normal and all of a sudden went dark, verify the backlight. Normally you can look through the slots on the top of the set and determine if the backlight is on. If you can see a bright light through any of the slots, the backlight is probably OK... go after the brightness/contrast settings.

Same problem as this poster

i had a similar problem and it ended up being the bulb. The indicator light never lit up but after i replaced th bulb I checked to see how many hours where on the bulb and it was over 8100. they state the bulbs are only good for 6000. when i replaced it ($140 on ebay) everything was fine.

No picture, screen is dark, but audio and the system control is operational

This sounds like the vertical output IC has stopped working. If the vertical pulses are missing at the yokes then the picture shuts down to protect the CRT's from being burned by the intense thin white line through the center of the picture. I have seen many of those TDA vertical output IC's fail.
