Question about Philips MCD703/37 System

Broken DVD holder/spindle

I have a MCD703. Great system. However, the little black spring loaded DVD holder in the DVD/CD player broke...its the part that goes on the motor spindle. It has to be a $1.00 part, but Philips wants to replace the entire unit with a newer model (but not as nice). Where do I buy one of these little plastic round (approx 5/8" round) pieces?

I have a philips hts6510 home theatre system and when i put a dvd in to play it says no disc

hi,
Normally a dvd player shows the message NO DISC when,
1. The disc inserted is bad.
2 The lase pickup unit inside the dvd lost its reading intensity, dirty lens or the spindle motor damaged .

In your case the second one happened. the intensity of the laser pickup unit has lost or the spindle motor faulty or there is some dust on its lens. just insert a cleaning cd in it for two or three times. then check again is the DVD is reading or not

if the problem remains then you have to check the motor and the laser pickup unit. the lase pickup unit have two laser emitter and receiver in its inside . one for reading and playing DVDs and the other for CD and MP3. also the spindle motor runs in different speed when u insert dvd and cd.

Open the cover of your dvd player and power it on insert an audio cd and watch is it reading or not also notice the speed of the spindling of the cd. if the audio cd reads and play. then the possible problem is the spindle motor

To conform it remove the audio cd and insert a dvd. watch the rotation of the dvd. if it feel very hard to rotate it then, the spindle motor is damaged. if so replace the spindle motor if it runs more the the speed of than audio cd then the laser pickup unit is faulty. Then u have to replace the laser pickup unit.
if you need any further assistance from me , feel free to contact me through fixya.

DVD PLAYER REPAIR (NO DISC ERROR)

Before you attempt to repair your DVD Player yourself, make sure that you have necessary tools and test instruments like philips screw drivers, multimeter, soldering iron, soldering lead, soldering pump, etc...

jdvillanueva_27.jpg

This is a DVD/MIDI Player with a "no disc error" upon loading any disc that played before...
Watch this VIDEO
First I've loaded it with disc and observe the movement of the optical lens and the spindle motor. First thing I've noticed that the spindle motor didn't oscillate upon spinning and it's spin slowly unlike the normal RPM...
I've suspected the spindle motor was already bad but still to be confirm...

jdvillanueva_28.jpg

jdvillanueva_29.jpg

Unscrew the disc holder plate from the assembly to keep away the magnet touching the spindle motor, this may affect the reading and spinning of the motor upon testing with the multimeter.

jdvillanueva_30.jpg

This is how it looks like after removing the disc plate holder in the assembly. Spindle motor is secured with 2 small screws in the lens assembly.
Pull-out the connectors from the main board to see the underside of the tray.

jdvillanueva_31.jpg

You may test the spindle motor with your multimeter set in resistance measurement (ohms X1) even connected to the small board.
Bad motor will read either less than 5ohms(shorted winding) or infinity (open winding) and will not spin.
Good motor will read more than 50 ohms(depends the size) and will spin upon testing. Watch this VIDEO.

jdvillanueva_32.jpg

jdvillanueva_33.jpg

Onced you've confirmed that the motor was already faulty, unscrew it from the lens assembly.

jdvillanueva_34.jpg

Replaced the spindle motor with new one. Before you install the new motor make sure that the clearance of the disc holder is the same as the old one. Compare first the clearance because if it is to high the optical lens will not read the disc same if it is to low....

After replacing the motor re-insert all the connectors to the main board.
I've load same disc which does not read a while ago and observe what will happen. Observe the disc and the sound oscillation from the spindle motor in this VIDEO.

Hope that the above information, pictures, and video will help you fixing your DVD player yourself.
Thanks for visiting Fixya.
Have a nice day!

FAILURE TO READ DISCS. TECHNICS SL-DV280 (SC-DV280)

if the disc starts to rotate when helped by hand then you definately have a weak spindle motor. dvds spin faster than cds which gives more wear & tear to the motor. i've repaired these faults numerous times. hope this helps?

Curtis DVD 5091 Home Theatre System

I believe I have the solution....but it depends on your dvd player's zuxilarily capabilities. Do you have a second set of OUTPUT plugs that are colored Red and White on the back of the TV? Do you have a separate Red and White INPUT plugs on the back of the dvd? The TV must use the speakers in the DVD system by pushing the sound OUT. You cannot accomplish this if the dvd is only pluged into the INPUT of the tv.
\Another option is o make sure your DVD player has a "auxilary" or separate input channel on the console or remote.
I have a DVD home theatre system as well, not the same brand, but that shouldn't make a difference . Its a matter of how the sound is received.

Hope that helped.

Broken DVD Loader Door

generally they put pressure on the door panel to "open" the door, doesn't really matter where as long as they are out of the way of the disk and the hinge, if you do it correctly they will self seat and not be an issue. hope this helps just keep thinking about it and it will become obvious, while you look at the assembly.

DVD is dead

Wow , with the unit sitting for two years, you could have all sorts of problems now. Most likely back when the unit stopped working, the spindle motor was bad, as that was the problem on almost all of these types of CD players. Now though, if the power supply capacitors are not shot, the laser assembly could also be bad. My best advice on this unit? Can it and start out with new equipment. Good Luck

Problem with Sony DAV C770 DVD player

theres a mechanical system inside this unit that most of it is made out of nylon or plastic gears and levers so im thinking that somehow the unit broke one of the gears or cams and cant complete its cycle or somethings inside the unit like a paper cd label or something liker that But my moneys on a broken loading mechaism and the onlty way to fix that is to get a complete mechanical service manual and start from sratch with the alighnments and then you will see when one isent in the right spot. This is not an easy repair unless you do these makes and models all the time as there are so many alighnments and gears that it seems how did this ever work>?? good luck PS send this unit to someone who knows!!
