turn TV on, it stays on for about 10-15 seconds and shuts off by itself. IT WON'T STAY ON. It is only about 2 years old and not used that much.

the vcr stopped working months ago and now when I turn on the TV, it makes a whirring noise(coming from the vcr area) and then shuts off.

I have the same problem as described by the other two. I took mine to the TV Doctor in Springfield, Mo. and found another TV identical with the same problem. They could not repair the TV without trying to order a replacement of the VCR part of the Combo and the cost was unknown, if in fact, they cout obtain one. The whole thing is now worthless and I must now pay another $45.00 to have it recycled on top of the $35 I paid to have it analyzed.

It is time for the company to send out a solution, but don't hold your breath. No, I will not buy another Phillips/Magnavox ANYTHING!

I knew better than buy a combo anything and now I remind myself why I made that decision years ago.

Sometimes when the TV recives a brodcast signal for a new update to the mainframes firmware, it will have to turn itself on to install/recive the update and aslong as it is connected to a power source it can do this. hope this helped answer your question. Have a good day :)

The TV will shut off by itself randomly (anywhere

Sounds like the TV is going into the "protect mode", usually means there is a failure present and it's shutting down to ward off any serious damage to the electronics. The status light will usually blink a error code along with this symptom, call a service center and let them know how many times the light is blinking in a continious pattern and that will help them to diagnos your TV problem. Good luck and Merry Christmas!

Zenith TVBR1352Z TV/VCR combo. I cannot get a code to allow my Philips/Direct TV remote to control the TV/VCR. All I really need it to do is control the volume

Turn on your TV (or other device). You will have to do this manually until you program your Philips remote control

Look for the "Setup" or "Code Search" button on the Philips remote control. Which button your remote has will depend on the exact Philips remote control you are using. This button may be a different color or may be labeled.

Hold either the "Setup" or "Code Search" button for about 10 seconds. If your remote has a light, the light should begin blinking. If there is no light, you can just count to 10 and then let go of the button.

Press the "TV" button on the remote to program the Philips remote to your television set

Find and press either the "Up" or "Down" channel button on the remote. Continue pressing either button until the television channel changes. This may take several minutes. Once the channel changes, press the "Power" button on the remote to turn off the TV. Your Philips remote will now be programmed to your television.

TV/VCR combo unit trying to eject non-existent tape

The problem is that the loading is out of timing by a tooth. This would explain both the attempt to load a non-existant tape as well as the unit shutting down. This unit needs to be disassembled and the belts replaced and the loading mechanism re-timed. I have done many of these with success. While time consuming because the entire unit must be taken apart, it is not a real difficult repair for anyone that has done them in the past. Where are you located so I can make a referral?

Help!

My guess is that the prisim broken or led (light emitting diode) below it has failed so the vcr is stuck in an endless load...
It will have to be taken apart and the tape in it manually unloaded by turning the load motor counter clockwise. Then visually inspect the prisim and test the diode.
If any of this sounds too foreign take it to a good shop and they'll have it back and running in no time..
Hope this helps!
