I have a Nikkai A52HF PVR and want to format the hard drive to see if it fixes a problem, I bought the PVR second hand and did not get a manual with it so i need to know the default PIN that it asks for before formatting a hard drive. I have already tried the usual 9999 1234 0000 and as suggest by a webpage 8888 can anyone help?

Hi, this is a common problem, you need to get in touch with the place you have bought it from and tell them your hard drive is corrupt and will need formatting and re-installing the firmware, now depending on how long you have had it they may tell you you need to pay to have it fixed, if they tell you that then you would be better off getting a new one.
the chances are something has over heated and caused the data on the hard drive to be corrupt so even though it only showing 26% it means the rest of the hard drive has corrupt data and cant be recorder on so you only have 26% of your hard drive left that you can use.
over time this will happen to all dtv recorders its nothing you can do either contact the place that sold it to you or have a look in the book that came with it and contact their customer support and explain whats happening, they will then tell you how to access the service mode and this will allow you to format the hard drive and may solve the problem.
we dont have the service menu details here as its only sagem who hold them and they keep it to themselves as its what their engineers use to reset the system and solve any problems.
it may or may not work but you have got nothing to lose so either take it back to where you bought it from and ask them about an exchange or refund or look in the handbook and call sagem customer service team and ask them how to format the harddrive
also check in the settings that this is turned on: OAD Auto Updates enabled. make sure it is enabled.
also try doing the following to reset the box it may work but most of the time if the hd drive is corrupt it will need replacing before you can record again 1. Turn off the unit for 5 minutes to cause a full reset. 2. Turn on the PVR with everything attached except the aerial. 3. You will get an Er-09 on the display. On my PVR there was no output on the TV screen whatsoever (totally black screen). 4. Press 'OK' on the remote. 5. The box reboots in standby mode. after this it should say OAD complete this means the firmware has been updated if it dont do anything then the chances are you have all the latest updates and you hard drive is no good.
let me know how you get on or if you need further assistance ok
plz rate this solution as i have a whole page of unrated posts, thanks
Hi I am vortash , Just a suggestion but why not just buy a USB video capture device off Ebay and turn an old lap top into a PVR then you can fit an external Hard drive and record for however long the hard drive is capable of ?. You would possibly have greater control of picture search also when trying to find a particular piece of recording . Regards Vortash
This is a indication of a hard drive failure you could run a program called spinright on this its a small investment of $50 bucks but does save hard drives and 9 times out of 10 puts them back in business. But when in doubt replace the hard drive as if trying the format it does not work its safe to assume that you need a new drive. Thanks please do rate.
hard disk is nackered - had same problem. if you take power cable out of hard disk it will work as just freeview box. tried replacing my hardrive but it does not like drive and freezes again - software problem or format?
