I apologize for earlier confusion, I'm pretty sure its not the battery, it might be the actual power connector on the laptop itself because the power light does not go on when I plug in the power supply, I also have a newer Compaq that uses exactly the same power supply which I tried as well so I know the power supply is probably fine. But if it is the actual connector on the laptop, is there anything I can do?

I leaned all the contacts, on the battery and on the computer. I plugged in the power adaptor without the battery at first to make sure that the battery wasn't causing the problem, and I got nothing, then I put the battery back in - same thing, no power what so ever. I even tried to take out one memory stick and see if it will work, then swiched it with the second one and tried plugging it in, nothing works, I just don't know what else it could be if not the socket any more. Maybe it shorted out or someone was not careful when the laptop was plugged in and ripped the plug out of the socket, thus damaging or disconnecting the socket from the motherboard itself. I really wanted to take a look at that connection, but after I took out all the screws, the back panel still won't come off...so I'm not sure how to get to the actual power socket and see if its connected to the motherboard. Thanks a lot for all your help.

Does the computer run OK plugged in? If so, sounds like a faulty battery. Batteries don't last forever, usually they'll last the lifetime of the PC, but some PC's are older than others...

hi this depends on the age if it is older than 3 1/2 year old approx, then you maybe able to put one in, other than that the easiest way to find out is to take the old one out, just look at the back end where it connects to the board, if it has pins in the back its ide if it has just a line of contacts then its sata...hope this helps

It sounds very much like an inverter issue. The inverter sits under the lcd screen in the screen plastics. It is replaceable, but obviously there is a danger the screen may get damaged.
