What u have to do is put it into disk mode to try and recover the files, your ipod memory is corrupt and there is something wrong with it. to put it into disk mode u have to do this,

1) turn ipod off by pressing middle button and menu button.and put on hold for 5 sec

2) to put it in disk mode turn it on and when the apple logo appers push the middle button and the play button do this as QUICK AS U CAN OR IT WONT WORK!!! . (P.S. BE SUE TO PLUG IT IN TO COMP WHEN IN DISK MODE OR TRYING TO PUT IN DISK MODE) I WILL FIND A RECOVER FOR U IF U CANT GET THE FILES FIXED.

My apple 30GB has sad face /www.apple.com/support/ipod

Hi, you may want to try reset your iPod: 1. Toggle the Hold switch on and off. (Slide it to Hold, then turn it off again.) 2. Press and hold the Menu and Center (Select) buttons simultaneously until the Apple logo appears, about 6 to 10 seconds. You may need to repeat this step.
If you are having difficulty resetting your iPod, set it on a flat surface. Make sure the finger pressing the Select button is not touching any part of the click wheel. Also make sure that you are pressing the Menu button toward the outside of the click wheel, and not near the center. If the above steps did not work, try connecting iPod to a power adapter and plug the power adapter into an electrical outlet, or connect iPod to your computer. Make sure the computer is turned on and isn't set to go to sleep.
Regards, Peter

My ipod 30gb shows its sick face on start up help

This is generally caused by a hardware failure. If it's under warranty, send it back to Apple. Otherwise, you need to start looking at replacing the hardware. If the screen shows a sad face, then you can assume the screen and battery are probably OK. So, the problem is probably with the hard drive or the logic board.

Ipod shows sad face and folders

the sad face means there is a software / hardware side fault witch needs service.

Start with these five simple solutions: Reset, retry, restart, reinstall, or restore…

www.apple.com/support/ipod/five_rs/

If they dont work you will need to send the ipod in for service.

My ipod shows a sad face

Hopefully your ipod is still under warranty, because this is indicative of a hardware problem.

You could try to force it into disk mode and do a restore, if that doesn't work then it needs to be sent in for repair.
