my son and i fixed an eon a decade ago that had this problem. we swept a sine wave through the audio spectrum and discovered it started barking somewhere around a low D on the piano.
Turns out the mains connection was intermittent right where it enters the eon from the wall. Soldered the ac power connections and the problem went away.

from our experience rebuilding woofers once the lead wires get pulled too much or start to strain you have been running too much power into the woofer and making the cone move too far in and out.You need to cut the input signal from your preamp down and cut the volume down on the speaker input on you eon. We keep seeing too many of these amped speakers blown from too much signal.

SOURCE: I get a loud intermitant
If you turn the unit on with no input and get a loud buzz, and when you put signal to it and you cannot hear the music but the buzz (Probably more like a hum). Then most likely the amp is blown.
