Computer POST and beep codes The computer power on self test (POST) will test your computer to make sure it can boot properly(test hardware and sys requirements), once it does the computer will then finish the boot process. Normally, if your computer passes the POST test it will beep once or possibly twice. If the computer fails the POST then it will either not beep at all or generate a beep code.
The beep code you receive can indicate what may be wrong with your computer. The beep codes vary depending on your motherboard BIOS manufacturer(AMI, Award, Phoenix). You can find what BIOS you are using by paying attention to the BIOS screen when your computer boots up. It should tell you what brand BIOS.

Anyways here are the common beep codes for your motherboard.. it might help you too. 1. No beep - no reaction, the mother board is dead, power supply problem, processor and or ram problem. 2. 1beep - board is working fine. 3. One long beep then it shuts down - cpu problem, your processor is not working or missing. 4. 1short beep - system boots normally 5. 2short beeps - CMOS setting error. 6. 1long 1short beep - dram error 7. 1long 2 short beep - video card or monitor not connected 8. 1long 3 short beep - keyboard error. 9. 1long 9short beep - ROM error 10. Long beep - memory card is missing or not connected 11. Short beep - power supply error 12 Four beeps - there is no fan detected on Fan1 or Fan2 header. make sure to attach or reset CMOS bios to factory setting.

Continuous long beeps: DRAM error

As you can see there isn't a code for three short beeps.
When you boot your system try to pause your boot up screen. See if the bios is reporting the correct total of memory in your system.

You have a choice in making a bootable floppy disk or a bootable CD-ROM disk. Once completed you boot your system to the testing program. Memtest will check your system memory.

Phoenix BIOS ERROR BEEP CODES
Phoenix BIOS beep codes are a series of beeps separated by a pause, for example:
beep --- beep beep --- beep --- beep beep would be 1-2-1-2
1-1-4-1 - Cache Error (level 2)
1-2-2-3 - BIOS ROM Checksum
1-3-1-1 - DRAM Refresh Test
1-3-1-3 - Keyboard controller test
1-3-4-1 - RAM Failure on address line xxxx (check memory)
1-3-4-3 - RAM Failure on data bits xxxx of low byte of memory bus
1-4-1-1 - RAM Failure on data bits xxxx of high byte of memory bus
The three beeps is a diagnostic code. The beeps can represent a range of problems depending on which brand of mother board you have and what chipset it has. You can sometimes find the diagnostics related to the beeps online. The first thing to check is to make sure all your cards and ram are properly seated into their respective slots. I suspect your ram. Speaking of which 256 meg sdram is not enough to run todays applications. You should step up your ram to at least 1 gig and if you are running Vista, you'll need 2 gig.
have you tried to isolate what the cause of the problem? first check the video card if is properly inserted into the slot, and check the memory, and cable from CPU to monitor if it is connected properly. then boot your system. And try to observe this beep error code this might help you locate where the problem is.
