Yes, provided the TV can accept one of the Blu-Ray player output connection types. But there is NO advantage over DVD, the reason is that Blu-Ray is designed for 1080i and 1080p resolution high definition TV's, and you won't get better resolution simply connecting a Blu-Ray player to an old TV.

Blu-ray player mode not supported

Is your TV 1080p? If the Blu-Ray is putting out 1080p and your TV only supports 720p/1080i then you will get a message like this. Try changing your settings to 720p while it is connected to a TV that does display correctly, then move it back to the 47 in LCD.

If the issue persists after installing the firmware update, the would have been with the disc. Check the disc with another player, try different discs with same player.

If the Blu-ray Player is not at all playing any Blu-ray disc including the previous played ones, then it may require service.

Is a blu-ray player compatible with a rear projection tv phillip?

You need to use an HDMI connection from blu-ray player to the television. If your tv does not have an HDMI input the tv is probably to old and will not accept 1080P. If it does have an HDMI connection it should display a minimum of 1080i.

Blu-Ray will never play HD-DVD's, and HD-DVD's will never play Blu-Ray - they are competing technologies. Sorry.
