Question about Dishwashers

5 Answers

One of the lid actuator motors died on my F&P DD603 dishwasher and was replaced by the serviceman. He put the machine in a test mode and pressed a code to try the operation while the drawer was open. I witnessed the lid closing properly. Now it appears that the other actuator is faulty. To save an extremely expensive service call, how can I put the machine in test mode and verify the actuator operation with the drawer open?

My F&P DD603 has a three buttons outside. Power, Start/Pause and Lock buttons. Inside it has a soft touch panel which sets the wash cycle desired. The reply to my post does not tell me in a satisfactory manner how to get into the test mode to operate the lid actuators etc with the lid open. When I do get into the test mode, how do I test the actuators?

Thanks for the tip about the micro switch Len. Unfortunately, there isn't one! AFter a lot of (m)ucking around and research, I found that in the front panel there is an optical device based on a LED that senses that the lid is closed. File this away for your next piece of advice!

To test the lid operation first pull the drawer forward of the cabinet by depressing the lugs on each side rail and pulling the drawer forward. Then go into diagnostic mode. Once there press power once and the lcd will display "HO" for hardware output. Then press "Start/Pause until the letters "LD" appear. Press the keylock button and then the two actuators (lid motors) should wind the lid down. If only one works or they both work but the lid does not come down properly you have found your problem. Pressing keylock again will raise the lid. If the lid appears to be snagging on one side or the other it may be the yoke (plastic arm connecting the actuator to the lid) that may be your problem.

    The door
switch is important because, if it's defective, the dishwasher won't
work at all. To reach it, you need to remove the control panel cover,
or sometimes the interior liner of the door. If it's defective, you
    need to completely replace it.

    The
latch on many dishwashers is adjustable. If your door is easy to close
but difficult to latch, adjust the latch to let the door close more
easily. If you can't see any way to adjust the latch, yours may be
fixed in a certain position. Check for other reasons for the latching
    problem.

If the latch has worn out in a way that makes it
impossible for you to close the door properly, you probably need to
    replace the latch.

    Springs

    Your
dishwasher has two springs that counterbalance the weight of the door.
If either or both of these are broken, the door feels quite heavy and
you need to replace both springs.

    Hinges

    The
hinges are important to the door closing properly. If they're bent or
deformed, you probably need to replace them. Once bent, only rarely can
    they be straightened well enough.

    Door seal

    If
your dishwasher is new--or if you have just replaced a door seal--the
door may be difficult to latch for a week or two. If the tightness
persists, though, try adjusting the latch, if it's adjustable. If it's
not adjustable, there's probably nothing you can do immediately. But
try running the dishwasher on the highest heat cycle to help the seal
conform to the door. Otherwise, the seal should compress over time.

Went on a service call for a Fisher Paykel dishdrawer yesterday.
Complaint was that the lower drawer would not start up. Diagnosis
confirmed the complaint, the drawer would act as though it wasn’t
closed all the way, would just give not-ready beeps when you closed it
    and pressed start.

I put the drawer into diagnostic mode by pressing and holding the
Key Lock and Start buttons simultaneously. In diagnostic mode, I could
review the current and previous error codes. Current code showed U2,
drawer not closed error. The prime suspect in this case is always the
drawer limit switch. On the DD602’s, the limit switch is located on the
very back of the left drawer guide which means, you guessed it, the
    drawer needs to come out.

If you’ve not removed a drawer from a DD602, you’re in for a joy ride. This article
has details on how to do it. Fisher Paykel has made several
improvements in the DD603 models which have been gratefully received by
Fisher Paykel servicers. The drawer linkage is chief among them. It’s
actually not that bad, you just have to be patient and methodical.

Dishwasher Diagnostics can only be entered in Power Off mode, ie. When there is no display on the LCD or the badge LED’s are off. Diagnostics is entered by holding the Keylock and Start/Pause buttons simultaneously for 5 seconds. Ensure that Keylock is pushed first.

There are currently four levels of diagnostics. To move to the next level push Power. To enter a level push Start/Pause. Once a level has been entered, pushing Power will exit diagnostics completely. If no level is entered then the display will cycle through the four levels and exit after the last. On entering diagnostic mode the first level is the Display/Download Mode.

To find the tech sheet attached to your dishwasher remove the bottom drawer, You'll find a tech sheet attached to the back wall of the cabinet. Push the tabs in at the ends of the rails that hold the drawer in. Careful when you pull the drawer out. Lean the drawer to the left to get it out of the way.

How do I move the actuators by hand on a Fisher and Paykel DD603 two drawer dishwasher

Lid motors should rectify themselves when power is restored. Once they have moved up then push the drawer back. If they don't rectify, you can disconnect the actuator from the side frame and rotate the actuator to wind it up.

On 2 door dishwasher model DD603 bottom draw is very hard to slide out or in. Can i remove draw to inspect and oil draw runners?

Hi- Most likely the lid is stuck in the down, or partially down position. This is usually caused by the lid actuators (motors) not returning the lid to its full up position and therefore the drawer top is dragging on the lid gasket. Replacing the lid actuators should resolve the problem. You'll need a F/P tech to change those for you. Hope this helps.

Leaking water from bottom draw

To put machine into test mode: Press and hold keylock, then press and hold start button. Hold both in until machine beeps (if you have display, it will show all symbols). Press power button- display should now show HO. Press start button until LD shows in display- this tests lid motors. Activate lid motors by pressing keylock button- if you open drawer about 3 inches, you should see lid come down. Pressing keylock again will raise lid. Raise and lower lid several times by pressing keylock button to ensure lid is working properly- if not, lid motors need replacing. Good luck!!

Can anyone help me with my fisher and paykel DD603 the top draw is showing F1. fault 1. thanks

When F1 is showing up then there is a leak. The leak is causing by the top lid seal not close down tightly to the opening tube surface groove. Pull out the tube, put in tower in the bottom housing accessing from the left side. Only this side you can have room to put your hand in drying out the bottom. Do the same thing with the bottom drawer since the floor sensor is at the bottom and when it detects water then there is some water at the bottom housing of lower tube also. After Drying it out you can use You can use the lower tube wile ordering parts for the upper tube. Need to order 2 upper actuators and a lid seal with YOKE, if you want to do it yourself. Otherwise, have a F&P serviceman come in and diagnose the problem, not any handyman since the F&P dishwasher is not like others.

Fisher Paykel DD603 Problem. Top drawer shows F1 and pump runs continuously. Lower drawer does nothing, no display. I think the Electronic Controller in lower drawer is fried and maybe the Mains Filter...

Yup, definately the bottom drawer controller, for some reason you can run a DD603 with no board in the top, so long as you have a board in the bottom, but not the other way around. This is the fault you get, constant F1 from the top drawer. If you are stuck try removing the display cable from the bottom controller, this may help, so long as you leave the chassis harness in.

1 Answer

I cannot open the draw something is stuck in it

Your dishwasher has a top lid to seal the tube when it in operation. The seal mode is achieved by 2 actuator valves on both side of the housing pulling your top lid down. Model from 603 to current actuators are electric motor. For previous models they are vacuum pump activation.
When the actuators are bad they are either not pulling down the top lid causing a leak, or not releasing top lid back to its original position causing the lid stuck and the tub can not be pulled out as in your case.
Let's go to diagnostic test mode to see if you can retrieve the the actuator hence the tube out.
1- Press Lock button and start/pause key until the display showing up.
2- Press Power to show HO.
3- Press start button to advance the display until you see LD or LS, if you pass, keep doing it to get it back in a loop.
4- When at LD or LS, press lock to turn on, press a agin to turn off.
5- Listen to the sound of Actuators and at the same time, try to pull the tube out.
6- When it is done, just press the Power button to get out od the diagnstic mode.
7- If you are lucky, if just the seal to replace then it is easier than repalcing the actuators. Good luck.

if you remove the lower drawer assembly, there is a pretty helpful techsheet/trouble shooter, that will get you intotest mode for the lid actuators. a quick way (in my experience, is color.. they now preoduce a black set of actuators that have a REAL low failure rate,,if i see that your actuators are white'off white in color, i generally reccomned replacing them with the newest set

Top drawer stuck, gaskets rubbing, no power to controls

I see the question is posted in the DD603 section, so I am not sure if I am giving the proper advice. Are you sure this is a 602/601 series? A DD603 model has lid actuator motors, not the inflatable style seal. It sounds like the lid motors are in the DOWN position. Since the machine is "dead" what may have happened is the heater plate opened up (the heater plate is a dropping resistor inline with the machine's controller) when the machine was in use and that stopped everything dead.
Double-check your model number so we know what style of lid your machine has, The difference is huge between models.
