Question about Kitchen Ranges

1 Answer

Hi, I have purchased a pressure Cooker from Home Art, a retail store chain which has just recently ceased trading in South Australia. I have checked out the Stores in an effort to identify my pressure Cooker and the Bergner is identical. My problem is that there is no instruction booklet to provide advice as to how much water is needed to each Kilo of food to be cooked. I have used both the Hawkins and Namco pressure cookers in the past and each recipe book gives different amounts of water to use. As the Bergner has a very active steam release in it's operation I suspect that a fair amount of water would be used in order to avoid running out of water whilst cooking. Can you help me find out where I can obtain a booklet to set my mind at ease as this aspect is resulting in very little use of the cooker.

In such case, you can identify the amount of water by looking at the recipe booklet of Hawkins and Namco. I believe they don't have much difference when it comes to volume of water needed.

I have a Maytag glass top stove are the burns suppose to turn off and on while I am cooking on it or just stay on all the time? Please someone help me with this.

i used a glass top cooker just recently and I noticed the same effect
the cooking process was not interrupted so I would say that it is part of the energy saving characteristic of the glass top cooker where once the set thermostat setting is reached, the burner is switched off until the thermostat turns it back on again
the glass top cookers are advertised as more energy efficient than the coils and solid plate so discuss this with a retailer or service agent to ensure that there is no faults in the unit

How to hard wire to back of cooker

I gather your cooker has a cord and plug? The connections from the cord and plug into the oven would be where you connect the fixed wiring. This must be done by a licensed Electrician ( In Australia)

Pressure cooker safety

From the point of view of the pressure cooker, there shouldn't be any problem at all provided you follow the pressure cooker instructions.

From the point of view of the stove, the only thing you might want to watch out for is point loading - some older pressure cookers can get a bit domed at the bottom. On a flat surfaced stove, this will concentrate all the weight of what is after all quite a heavy pot onto a small part of the stove top. If the bottom of the pressure cooker is still nice and flat, I don't see any problem.

there should be a regulator on back of the stove where the gas line will see a plug that unscrews, remove this plug and run the unit.if this solves your problem clean the plug really good and put back on.
