The subwoofer output on my Kenwood VR-606 has suddenly stopped working. I have tried the "setup" several times, turning the subwoofer off and back on. Also, when I first power up the system, it emits a low...

It sounds like the problem is not with your VR-606. If you hear a hum from the sub, the problem is more likely to be in the sub's built-in power amplifier. However, it is worth resetting the amplifier to factory presets. To do this, unplug the power cable from the mains supply and reconnect whilst holding down the power on/standby key. If the hum persists, connect any powered speaker to the sub-out socket, power on and listen for the hum. If no hum then suspect the powered sub amp. Turn the sub on with no connection to the Kenwood VR-606. If hum persists, the sub has a problem and will need to be replaced or repaired. By the way, you said there is a low frequency hum through the 'speakers' for about 30 mins. Is that all speakers or just the sub? Hope this helps.
Cheers, Don.

Subwoofers don't work

the voice coils are probably fried. you may want to check your amps to see if they are putting out dc voltage. you may be abel to find a place that can fix the subs. otherwise you will need to replace them.

Sub keeps loosin bass

Its probably not your subwoofer- its likely that your amp is showing its age after 2 years of bumping -But it could be that you have partially roasted the coil on the sub which is tripping your amp into protect mode-thus shutting down throw a different sub in there for a week and listen to it and if it stops acting up then its probably the sub if it still shuts down then it may be time for a new amp

What would be the ideal amplifier for these subs?

i have the same subs. i am running a total 500/1. i would say not a good idea, just today i was listening to bass mechanic and i could smell the voice coils heating up. so probaly a 300-400 watt amp would be good. just make sure it is a true wattage amplifier. not a cheap amp. pioneer amps that walmart sells are actually good amps.

Sometimes power problems are not visible. Did you check the voltage at the amplifier with a multimeter?
