My Gateway LCD Monitor was fine last night this morning to my surprise the screen was full of blue and white horizontal lines. I tried restarting the computer and then I couldn't even get it to turn on. Any ideas? sfb123

Could be an open internal fuse or power supply failure

It might be the problem of the LCD display wiring. Not any problems of the drivers. If your notebook is still in the warranty period, call the customer care and they should fix it.

Or else print screen, copy it to paint. If there is no white lines in the image, then sure its LCD problem. Replace the wiring with experts in case you're out of warranty period. Take care not to repair it by yourself as it could do more damage to your screen.

Your LCD has either gone bad or the ribbon needs to be reseated.

Carefully pry the plastic cover that runs parallel with your LCD. You will see the ribbon to the monitor. Press the connector down and make sure it didn't come loose.

Restart Windows.

If that doesn't work, then you will need to replace the LCD screen. You will not have to replace your lid...just the LCD. That should save you some money.

Have you unplugged the power cord to the LCD? Let it sit for a minute, then try it. ALWAYS buy a UPS and plug any computer devices into it. Doesn't have to be big, a $50 unit will protect it from dangerous voltage surges.

Try taking on the back of the monitor and pulling the power plug all the way out of it for about five minutes and then plug it back in and restart the computer see if it solved it thanks

wjfarm48, Sure sounds like a power supply problem. How old is it? How many hours of use? Do you understand what a switch-mode-power-supply and an inverter supply is? If not, then here are your options. Check with Gateway to see if there is a swapout program. You box up and ship them your monitor+cash, and they return a REFURBISHED same model with new CCF tubes and inverter/SMPS. When you box up the monitor, follow this lead. "A 3 inch thick layer of breathable air shall be the only thing touching the lcd front panel" Next option is find some local TV/Monitor repair guy who can get parts and or replacement boards/CCFtubes from Gateway. Last but not least, is to repair yourself. Not Recomended.. But do a search on lcd monitor repair or Bad Capacitors In LCD Monitors or Repair of SMPS in LCD/FPD Monitors. Also check for videos on YouTUBE related to lcd monitor repair just for your own info. Here 's what you are dealing with. The light that makes your FPD bright white is generated by Cold Cathode Fluorescent Tubes (2) that require 600-1200vac at high frequency that is generated by an INVERTER which gets 12-24vdc from the SMPS. Almost the same technology is used in the new style screw-in curlie-que Compact Fluorescent light bulbs. Only they call the inverter a electronic ballast. Anyway, thats about all the info I have. horizontal lines can be caused by either a faulty grapchics card or a faulty monitor. try adjusting the screen refresh rate. if you are using a windows xp system goto

start>control panel>display>settings>advanced>monitor

then adjust the screen refresh rate and see if the horizontal lines disappear. if not, then you probably have a faulty graphics card or monitor.

Disconnect the monitor from the computer and turn the monitor on
it will display a diagnostic colorbar are the lines still there.
if not they are likely a cable or video card.
if they are still there have a tech evaluate the monitor.
