Question about Brother MFC 4800 All-In-One Laser Printer

1 Answer

Each succeeding copy gets darker and darker

First copy has a normal white background. Each succeeding copy has a black toner background which gets darker with each copy until the copies are nearly completely black. The darkening takes place first on the left side of the paper and gradually moves across the page until the whole page is to black to read. All prescribed cleaning procedures have been done. The drum assembly has been replaced.

When was the drum replace? Recently? Could it be time again?
Was it a remanufactured unit?
Regardless of all that, It sounds to me like the drum is failing.

Canon PC921 Replaced toner, bad copies. Is there a separate drum to be replaced?

yes that it 's the most possibillity.
but you must be assure that :
- the paper is not moist. (it makes pale copies)
- the glass has you cleaned up. (it makes black background uneven)
- the transfer unit is not dirty. (it makes black background)

I have a Minolta cs pro 2080 copier, shading on copies

3 possible causes:
1) The optics are dirty thus making your copy darker. The test for this is to manually lighten the copy using the exposure control on the panel of your copier. Lighten the copy several positions and see if the copy gets better. If it does then the optics need to be cleaned.
2) The copier is overtoned. This means that the toner to developer concentration is to high. This will require a trained technician to lower the toner ratio and then recalibrate the toner/developer ration using the F8 mode.
3) If the shading gets much worse as you run say 10 copies in a row then the drum cleaning blade would be the cause. So run 10 copies of something and compare the first copy out with the tenth copy out. Do you see a dramatic difference in the amount of background or "shading"?
Good Luck and thank you for using Fixya.

U need to check your developer material. How many copiers has been made?

U can also perform 05-200 for the auto toner adjustment. The value should be in the range of 235-245% ( 2.35v - 2.45v )

Want a B&W copy from colored sheet of paper w/o dark background.

It's never going to be perfect (unless the background is quite light in colour), because the copier basically "sees" the coloured background as "gray", and the darker the background the more "gray" it looks. Try setting the original type to "photo" mode, and then adjusting the exposure a little lighter/darker....that's all you can basically do.

Gray background, but copied text is visible

With toner being dropped I would take a close look at the cleaning unit next to the drum. Sometimes they become clogged or wear out. Inside the machine, can you see toner that has spilled or piled up? If so that is an indication of a faulty cleaning unit.
