Are you sure that it doesn't just stay on for 30 seconds to one minute and then shut off? if it stays on all the time, the light switch has been manually turned on and you need to turn it onto 'automatic'

If the track is a screw thread, then just latch the door anywhere along the track, and it will realign itself.
If the track is a chain-drive... then push door up until it clicks into latch.
Three blinking lights & door won't close by Candi
(Winston-Salem, NC)
Garage door will not open and close with remotes. Three blinking lights occur when we try to close door. What does this mean? It is a Linear unit.
I will assume you mean that your garage door will open with your remote but will not close. It should close if you press and hold the wall control button until the door is fully closed.
If that is the case, the 3 blinking lights indicate that your garage door's infrared safety beams are not properly aligned.
1) Check that the operator has power. The green lights on the sender and receiver should be lit.
2) If the receiver's green light is on, but the red light is off, the receiver has power but is not detecting the infrared beam from the sender. The red light might flash when the beam is partially detected. This can be caused by
mis-alignment or something blocking the beam.
Adjust the safety beam sender and receiver while watching the receiver's red light (stay out of the beam while aligning it). When the red light stays on, the beam is aligned and your garage door should operate normally.

NOTE: If the receiver's red light remains off, check for:
1) Dirt on the receiver's lens,
2) Sunlight shining into the receiver's lens,
3) A short in the safety beam wiring (from staples or at the operator terminals).

The sensors are seeing something directly in line with the beam between the 2 sensors, or your sensors are not aligned so they point directly at each other.
Very strange but you can try this. Unplug the opener and remove the light bulb. Use a small screwdriver and pry out on the center contact in the light socket. Replace the bulb and plug the opener in.
Sensors are working properly. That is not your problem. The light blinking 5 times is sending the code for RPM sensor or motor overload. Most likely if it is doing this with the door closed it is a bad RPM sensor which is a small printed circuit board just in front of the motor.
You need to check the adjustment for the travel of the door ... All automatic closers have a built in safety mechanism that prevents children, pets and even yourself from being crushed by the door ... so if the travel is set to low the door will hit the ground too hard and safety mechanism will activate opening the door again! Look at you documentation for how to adjust this for your particular model :)
If the main light flashes 10 times when the door reverses it is a door sensor problem but if the door is hitting the floor and reversing and the main light is not flashing then the door is closing too far and the safety thinks it has hit something. On the side of the motor unit you will find 2 controls. One of these is the 'down limit'. Turn this in the opposite direction of the arrow printed on the cover until the door closes but does not reverse.
The safety beams (mounted on the track near the floor) are out of alignment and the LED light should be blinking. The garage door opener will not let the door close if the beams are misaligned. Realign them and the LEDs on the beam or on the operator will stay on. you can close the door now
