Question about Yard Machines 158cc Push Lawn Mower #11a 034f200
I picked up an older model craftsamn mower that would not crank. i disassembled the carb and cleaned it. Now it will crank right up and continue to run on choke. When you take the choke off it dies. Help please.
A lot of time when the small motors on these push mowers surge it is a governing spring that is weak or broke. It does not hold enough tension and causes the valve to fluctuate. I have fixed this many time for a relatively cheap amount (under $5).

The carburetor jets are plugged. Complete disassembly & soaking in carburetor cleaner then re install parts after rinsing off & drying them. Make sure all ports are open. Torch tip cleaner is helpful.

Try rebuilding the carb. It might be your float is messed up. You can also get some carb and choke cleaner and take the sediment bowl of and clean everything in it. Give extra attention to the float and needle valve. They might have some build up that won't let it work properly.
Also your gas cap might not be venting properly.

Your carbs main jet is blocked. Using the primer supplements the fuel input and keeps the engine from becoming fuel starved.
You need to remove the main jet and run a strand of fine wire through the jet to clear it.
