Re: Oven light remains on when door is closed.
This range was probably made by Whirlpool or one of its dozen divisions so it probably has some slop in the hinge mounting to correct for their so-so manufacturing.
You may have to somewhat disassemble it to get to the hinge screws though.

Nearly always yes, very easily. Well they were put on weren't they :>)
For drop down doors, open half way and lift the door off upwards.
Now I re-read the questions, you talk about a 'light going off when the door is closed'. Now I think you are talking 'microwave ovens? The answer is firmly NO where a microwave is concerned.
Range Oven lights are always operated by a switch so you have to option of when to switch on and off. Useful for seeing how food is cooking without opening the door and useful for see inside the oven when you are cleaning it with the door open.
The door light switch was broken (upper right face of oven). The door switch is automatically activated when the door is opened to turn on the oven light. When the door is closed the switch is depressed to turn off the light. It seems the switch position is detected by the oven and if it is in the open position it will not allow the oven to function properly (reach temperature or allow the cleaning cycle to run). I temporarily locked the broken switch in the closed position, which allows the oven to function. A new switch was ordered for replacement.
