Once this software was installed, it would not launch
and the system would hang...
I tried the suggestions in the FAQ section of Plextor's
website, but they did not work...
As a side issue, as the FAQ suggested, I ran aspichk.exe from adaptec, which
indicated
"aspi is not properly installed, one or more components have been replaced
with older versions", but adaptec also warns NOT to use their aspi32.exe
(ver. 4.6) installation if I am using Windows Media Player v. 7.0 or Easy
CD Creator 4.x, which I am. Does anyone know the resolution to this issue?
Meanwhile, I cannot uninstall the software. The uninstall hangs
before it completes...
Any clues?

Alternatively, go here to download Plextools 1.0
#
look for this english version in the page
"anglickou (1.11MB)"
Install, and reboot.
Then go here to get the Plextools 1.08d upgrade
#
and download the latest upgrade
"PlexTools V1.08D Upgrade(!) - English Manual V1.08D Win
95/98/NT/2000 1773K"
Install and reboot. Launch Plextools. For me, no problems so far.
I haven't used Manager2000, but from what I've read, Plextools is
about the same thing. The only thing I haven't clarified yet is
whether there are two Plextools installed, or whether the upgrade
overwrites. The tray icon launches 1.08d. There are several Plex
processes running at bootup, but they seem ok so far.

Manager from tray, start menu, or explorer brought the system to a
near standstill. If i CTRL|ALT|DEL and kill any of the Manager
processes (plxstart, plxtask, A2K, M2K, V2K -- if i recall) which are
running, then the system returns to normal.
I have never installed MP7, but have the same problem as you.
I may have the answer for uninstall:
1. CTRL|ALT|DEL and end all Plextor processes. Every time you try to
uninstall, more processes get started. You have to clean them out
every time you reboot or try unsuccesfully to uninstall.
2. In Add/Remove Programs, remove Manager.
3. IMMEDIATELY you need to use CTRL|ALT|DEL to kill the Manager
processes that are started. If they get hold of the system, the
uninstall hangs.
4. If you get a message that the uninstall can't proceed bacause file
DelsL.isu can't be found, reinstall Manager over itself. If you can't
launch the install from the Manager2000 installation window, open the
CD in Explorer and run Plextor\Pm2k\setup.exe to reinstall.
5. Remove Manager.
You may have to try several times to get the right timing. The trick
is to get the Remove going and then catch it before it launches the
Manager processes and uses them. When you successfully catch them
all, the uninstall will proceed normally. You should be left with an
empty (or near empty) Program Files\Plextor2000 folder and an empty
folder in your Start Menu.
Let me know if this works. I haven't found a workaround yet that will
let me install Manager and have functionality. On one of my many
installs, it all worked. Then, on the next boot, it was back to
stalling again. Have no clue why it worked that one time (not the
first).
And, I have a second problem. After my secondary IDE channel
recognized the 16/10/40A as master, and I enabled DMA, I lost the
channel. Can't use it for CDROM or harddrive. If it boots, no
devices show up in Device Manager, so I can't disable the DMA, if it
is indeed still enabled.

the retail software. Manager locked up during uninstall. I
reinstalled without incident. The system degraded to unusable. I
succeeded in removing EZCD403 and DirectCD, but Manager uninstall
locked. Thereafter, the message says can't find the uninstall file.
Neither will it reinstall.
Plexstart and Plextask still show up as running at after bootup, and
unless I kill them both the system protests or crashes. The icon in
the tray won't launch it.
Ditto your experience on the ASPI layer check and messages.
With Manager neither launchable, reinstallable, nor uninstalled, and
with the system so compromised, I might as well have an onboard virus.
Hope you get some help and that I can tag along.
