Question about Computer Speakers

1 Answer

Because of Gigaware headphones, my speakers dont work

My computers custom built but runs on Windows XP, I dont exactly know the specifications cus my dad built it. Anyways, I got these Gigaware headphones, Premium Digital USB Stereo Headphones with Preset EQ and Microphone. They ******* ****, therefore I wanted go back to my speakers. For some reason my speakers dont work. Yes they are plugged in and everything, but for some reason no sound comes out. I tried my other set of speakers and they dont work either. I am using Logitech speakers, theres 4 little speakers, a sub wooffer, and another speaker thats a little bit bigger than the 4 little ones. Anyways, if anybody knows what the problem is please help me.

It sounds like the headphones shorted out the usb on your system, you might try some speakers that are not usb and see what you come up with,,,also check and make sur your sound isnt muted on the master control for the volume

No Sound From all speakers
  • Check that the speakers are powered on.
  • Check that the speakers are connected to the correct ports on the PC. This is particularly important If the customer has both integrated sound and a sound card.
  • If the speakers have a volume control button - ensure that this is turned up.
  • Check that the Windows Audio service is running. If this is not running then many of the subsequent troubleshooting steps will not work. Go to Start->Run and type services.msc. Double cliick on Windows Audio. Select Start if possible and check that the Startup Type is Automatic. Click OK.
  • If the speakers are digital speakers then try forcing the sound card to use digital. Go to Start->Control Panel->Sound and Audio Devices.. On the Volume tab, click the Advanced button in the Device Volume section. In the Volume Control window, below the Play Control Volume slider, click Advanced. If this does not show select Advanced Controls from the Options menu. Select Digital Output Only
  • If possible try an external audio source like a Walkman, CD, or MP3 player (connect the speakers to the headphone jack)
  • Check that the volume control in Windows isn't muted or turned too low. See the screen shots below. Go to Start->Control Panel and double click on Sounds and Audio Devices.

I have speakers built into my monitor but since changing from vista to xp they dont seem to work anymore im so confused and dont know what the hell to do because before thet they were working brilliantly

well the reason for it not working is becausethe windows lost the speaker's driver so what you need to do is to re-install the driver of the speaker.

Sound not working properly!!!

Run microsoft update and make sure to select all updates (even optional). You will see hardware updates (if there is any) and this may fix the issue. Let me know if not.

Good Luck!

HELP - we have no sound!!!

Ok i looked further into your problem. Let me try and explain something to you.

When i look up the specifications for your speakers, it says you can plug them into an ipod or or any audio device, (including your computer) , and then they will work. You cant install audio drivers for the ipod, but! they will still work with the ipod. Therefor you dont need a driver for these speakers. Now what the problem MAY BE is your sound card. I can possibly help you if you can give me some specifics as to which sound card you have and what Operating system are you using ( windows xp, windows 98, windows vista etc etc..) please let me know iw ould like to help!

1. if you choose windows vista instead of xp you can solve this issue. the drivers are available for vista only. visit www.hp.com for further proceedings. else 2. when you use xp the drivers must be updated from device manager. if You give the installed location of the specific drivers you can easily get what u need.....

5.1 GMX ProMedia Issue

The jacks on the back are probably for an amplifier output and you probably have had the speaker wire stripped too long possibly shorting out the amplifier as this is a common problem, if not stripped too long it may have just failed, also you need to check by unplugging from back of computer and hook up to a walk man or something with a headphone jack, see if still dead, might also be the cable from the computer to the speakers. Good luck. :-)

Does this help?

It's probably the socket - it may be that it's coming away from the board or the switch inside that cuts the speakers when you use headphones is faulty. It may be a simple resolder or you could replace the part.
