Question about Sony VAIO FRV28 Notebook

1 Answer

The 'A' key came off my VGN-FZ140E keyboard. I can't get it back on. Two small interlocking plastic parts are on the back of the detached key. These parts appear to need to snap into position on the keyboard. Suggestion would be appreciated.

I found that the two interlocking pieces of plastic should be positioned at both sides of the verical rubber holder that carries the key. I used two pairs of tweezers, one to keep up the key while it is attached to one of the pieces of plastic, one to bring the second piece in the correct position. If it fits, apply subtly some pressure on the key and it snaps!

Take extra care with these clips since they are very fragile however you just need to push the key in a swinging motion in order to snap it in. dont apply too much pressure though.

Can you tell me where the cmos battery is located on my sony vaio laptop model PCG-384L; VGN-FZ140E

If it is not where you can see a slot on the side or back, I would bet it's under the keyboard. The Sony support page may have the answer.

How do you put a key back on a laptop keyboard. It is a plastic key with a sissor latch and a small diameter metal rod bent into a wide square bottomed U. My daughter pulled it off can't get it to latch...

You have to get the sissor part back on first,
there are 4 small i-holes in a square on the keyboard,,

on the sissor part there is 4 small nubs on each corner, thay clip into the 4 i-holes,,

the key itself just clips down on the sissor part.<---Make sure its lined up b4 pushing

Gateway m-7301u 15.4 widescreen keyboard problem

The keyboard would need to be replaced because once the plastic tactiles are messed around with they loose there shape plus the metal pieces that the plastic tactiles stay on get bent as well which means the keys won't stay on as well and stay looser then normal, thats why its suggested to get a new keyboard.

I have a Sony Vaio laptop and I need to replace the keyboard.

The laptop opens up by prying the two halves of the case apart, but you have to be careful. The bottom of the case has to be pressed inward while inserting a small flat tool (a small screwdriver will work, but can damage the case). If you can picture this: The bottom of the case has some very small tabs that the top of the case snaps over. This is why I say when prying you should be applying the pressure so the bottom of the case is pushed inward with the tool while the top is pushed outward. There are maybe 10 or so of these little tabs around the case. I use a plastic tool that does the job--a cuticle stick that women use to work on their nails works fairly well.

If I've answered your question correctly, be sure to rate the solution, please.

Key for keyboard on a sony vgn a417m laptop

its not easy ,,,but you have to look at the spring assembly and see how it works, look at the bottom of the key button and see how it attaches.Once you figure that out and get it set right you just press it into place.Sometimes you can look at one that is still connected to the keyboard and see how its hooked up and that may help reassembling it.

Removing the hard drive to a Sony VAIO VGN-S660PNotebook?

On this line of Sony models replacing the hard drive is a pain because the computer must be taken completely apart to get to the hard drive. It is located under the palm rest. I looked up the Sony manual for this model and it does not show how to replace the hard drive -- meaning it should only be done by a trained tech.

You'll have to remove all the screws from the bottom and underneath the keyboard. Carefully detach the keyboard and set it aside. Once all the screws are remove from the laptop you should be able to separate the top of the casing from the bottom, this usually requires a small amount of force but too much force will crack the plastic! Underneath you will find the hard drive cage.

Also, some laptop vendors like to pull the 'hidden screw' trick! There may be a screw underneath the CD-rom drive so that may have to be removed or under some of the rubber feat on the laptop.

I couldn't find a photos or manuals that show how to do this, but these guys say they have a manual for a small fee. http://www.9manuals.com/Vaio2.htm

They want $5.99 for the manual but that is much cheaper than paying a technician to do it for you.

Good luck and be careful!
