If you have another pc in the house. take the hard drive form the E-machine and set the jumper to slave. and connected as secondary drive on the other machine. backup all of the files and reinstall the OS on the E-machine.

it's more than likely a driver issue, as the computer boots tap the f8 key and you'll presented with a boot menu. load the system in safe mode and see if it loads properly. if it does, uninstall the video drivers (usually the culprit) and then load the drivers from the manufacturer's website. windows update drivers sometimes screw things up more than they help. you can also tap the f8 key at boot and toggle down to 'do not restart on system failure' and restart. when the pc boots and it blue screens again it will stay on the screen and you can get the failure hex code. that will help us diagnose it

Never nice to see the blue screen. What is the status of your PC, does it still reboot? If so, press F8 after BIOS boot before it start windows. From there go to safe mode and execute a virus scan first.
After this shut down and restart pc again.

Try booting into safe mode. When the computer is just starting, tap the F8 key and keep tapping it until the safe mode options come up. Select "Last Known Good Configuration" and let it continue booting from there. Once inside Windows, check Windows Update to see if your computer had tried to install update KB977165. This recent update has been known to cause problems in XP, including the dreaded BSOD (Blue Screen of Death), due to malware infections. You may want to try the ESET online scanner on your machine and possibly Malwarebyte's Antimalware, available at www.download.com. Always keep running the scans until your computer comes up clean.

Blue screen

Are you getting a splash screen at start-up? If so, go into BIOS and set the CDROM as first boot device. Insert Windows disc into CDROM drive and restart. If it boots from the CD you should have the option to repair or re-install the operating system. If you re-install, you will lose all data on the hard drive. Sometimes taking the coin battery out before you do this can help.
