Question about Motorola Mobility Moto Q

1 Answer

Virus? Recently i decided to try syncing my email on my moto Q9c. Then about two days ago I opened an email from someone i didn't know by mistake. stupid, i know. i think it may be a virus. I think this because my phone is malfunctioning in multiple ways. First off, it's really slow compared to normal. Also, when i want to select my text messages on the home screen, the center (select) button will not work. It jumps either up or down and selects another option. Another problem is when i bring up a new text message, the keyboard sometimes will not text only after I type "i" (as in "i don't know, i think", etc - it'll only type the "i", and then i'm typing blank spaces.) it's almost as if the phone can't keep up with the message i'm trying to type. and trust me, i'm not typing fast at all.And other times, it'll only type blank spaces. So please, help me. I do not know how to fix this.

Mine glitched like this, it may not even be the email, sometimes they do this, i would backup contacts (save PIM.VOL file onto storage card) and master reset the phone by hold the center key and the power, then follow onscreen instructions

Hello,
This doesn't necessarily mean your account was hacked. A lot of times what happens is you get a virus on your computer which collects information about your email and contacts, then it sends automated emails to your contacts, enticing them to open a link and get infected as well. This is how a lot of viruses spread, and are proven to be more affective as it appears to be coming from someone your contacts know and trust.
The best thing to do is scan your PC with a good virus scanner and also with something like malwarebytes.org (download the free).
Change your email password asap just to be sure.
A virus can send email on your behalf without using your password and without logging into your email.
Also, if at all possible, never check your email on public computers, at libraries etc.. They could be full of viruses and key loggers.
Regards, Chris

I have a Motorola Q9c that won't vibrate.

i had some troule with lint (odd i know) getting stuck where the vibrate moto spings, press the button to release the battery cover, take that off, then continue to press the button to the battery cover and try to slide the top half of the back up, it should come off, just like the battery cover, this will expose the whole back of the phone, the vibrating thing is near the top left

I connected my work email to my Motorola Smartphone Q9c, and it shows a message in the inbox from the home screen, but when I click on it, it just takes me to the screen as if I touched the message button....

the phone doesnt know where to go when you click that, i dont know why it does that, go to you text messages, then press left or right on the d-pad, near the top left it should tell you what message inbox you're moving to, keep clicking till you get to the work one, you have to remember what name you gave your work account

I don't know how the problem was fixed, perhaps after performing 2 complete scans on my laptop. I can now open email attachments. Thank you anyway.

boot_c_03.08.00r_mpap Paul Sager from FixYa has posted a solution for this problem previousley (as below). I have tried the Motorola and Verizon sites (tried the store as well) and the software is not available to flash the phone. Do you know of a site that would still have it available? Or can this question be sent to Paul to further comment on it? All I want to do is recover the phone numbers, notes and calandar from the phone via Activesync or Windows. Paul Sager 2335 Solutions July 14, 2010 I can help you with your Motorola Moto Q. What has happened is that the firmware of your phone has become corrupted. When this happens your phone will no longer finish its boot sequence. This is a very common situation with many phones: in fact, much of what I do here at Fixya is explain how people can fix their MP3 players, GPS and phones by reflashing the firmware. The good news is that if you take your phone into your carrier's store, they can reflash it for you right there (if they have a competent tech handy.) If you are comfortable with computers etc, you can also do it yourself. Your computer will communicate with and fix your phone, even though it doesn't seem to recognize it right now - I've seen this many many times. My only warning for you is that if you are going to flash your phone yourself, you need to get the correct firmware from motorola's site for your carrier. I just downloaded the Verizon firmware as an example - Motorola's website has about ten different carrier firmwares for their MotoQ phone. I hope that helps.
