Question about Amana Dryers

Dryer quit after about 20 minutes-see more details below

Dryer quit after about 20 minutes drying time and would not restart. After allowing dryer to sit for about 3 hours, I tried to use it again. The heating element got really hot. (So hot that I could smell it getting hot.) Immediately shut it down. Took kick panel off lower front. Had quite a bit a bit of lint in the unit. Cleaned that out. In the area just below the electrical hookup there was some lint that looked like it had been hot. Do we need to take cover off electrical hookup and check for lint under cover? Do you think the heating element needs to be replaced? Or is there an overheating limit switch that needs to be checked out? When I first turned the dryer on it sounded like the motor had a hard time starting. Any ideas? Do you need any more info? If so, ask me some questions about something I didn't supply here.

Do you have clothes on top of dryer? if so, i'll say it again never ever stack clothes or anything on top of it. Things on it insulate it and will overheat the machine. Yes it has a overheat linit switch but to get to it you have to take it apart and pull the drum out depending on the style of heat element you have. Some are in the back of drum and others are in a tube on the floor of the unit inside. If yours is behind the drum then drum needs to come out to check for the problem

If it happens during the auto-drying cycle, the moisture sensor could be faulty.

If it happens during the timed cycle, the operating thermostat may be faulty. A faulty operating thermostat can fail to turn the heaters off and allow the dryer to get too hot. When this happens, the high limit thermostat will turn off the machine. After it cools down, it will start again.

Have a Maytag Dependable Care dryer. Model MDG9606AWW. The glow bar comes on, gas lights and stays on about 30 seconds, go off for about 30-60 sec. then comes back on for about 10-18 seconds. Then goes off...

Inspect the dryer venting from the rear of the dryer to the outside vent hood of the home.
If there's a restriction in the vent--the clothing in the dryer takes longer to dry.
When an LG dryer is functioning normally---the time required to dry laundry is determined by the *Sensor* located on the drum side of the lint filter housing and by the main control board.
When laundry is near dry--any Time Remaining on the control panel that is *not* needed will be eliminated---except for the last 6 minutes.
The final 6 minutes of any LG automatic cycle is for cooling down the laundry before the dryer ends the cycle.
If a dryer *counts down* to the last 6 minutes but the laundry is still not dry--the computer will allow the dryer to run until the laundry has dried or defaults (not drying within the additional time allowed).
Dryer vents that are longer than 8 feet with more than (2) 90 degree turns--can affect drying performance.
Setting the DRY LEVEL selector to *Very Dry* will solve most dryability issues. In homes with abnormally long vents--even the longer run time in the *Very Dry* setting is usually not sufficient to dry laundry loads.
Reducing the length of the vent or starting a second cycle becomes necessary to fully dry the clothing.
If a second cycle was started---only the amount of time that is needed to dry laundry will be used before dropping to 6 minutes and then the cycle will end with dry laundry.

LG gas dryers are more sensitive to venting length and air flow resistance. The gas burner can cause a rapid increase in temperature compared to an electric burner.
Rapid temperature rise in a gas dryer leads to premature burner shutdown (longer time required to dry laundry).
The gradual temperature increase of an electric element is more "forgiving" in homes where the dryer venting is less than ideal.

Maytag LDG 712 shuts off before clothes are dry.

First, The most common part would be the over limit safety, it will be mounted to the element housing. Second, there is a thermal fuse usually a small disk with a little fuse inside. You can find these (with your model no.) at www.Repairclinic.com .Good luck.

Maytag Neptune MDG 5500 AWQ heats sporatically

your dryer has a safety feature that it will not run or heat when the door is opened. It is so no gas fumes are exhauseted into your home. Once the safety is engaged, It will not allow the dryer to restart for a short while. It should clear itself after only a few minutes. Hope this helps, good luck.

Shutting off every 20 minutes

Your thremal fuse is getting hot. OR There are overloads attached to the element housing and one of them is getting hot and automatically resetting itself once it is cooled.

Dryer Rack

On mine, nothing "clamps down". There are 3 positions in the plastic rack into which you can insert the wire rest - "F", "H", and "A". God knows what they mean (I think the one rack is intended to be used in various dryers, of different depths), but if I use the rearmost position = "A", the back end of the wire rest rests on the non-moving rear of the drum, and the front of the rack rests on the lint screen holder. Seems to work, but the instructions leave a lot to be desired.
