Question about GE GSL25JFPBS Side by Side Refrigerator
The freezer on this unit will only maintain a 30 degree temp on coldest setting. I've cleaned everything I could get to behind and underneath. Even though it will not get any colder, the defrost system is still working because you can see the red glow in the back of freezer. It will go off, but I'm wandering if it comes on, or stays on too long?
Model # gsl25jfpabs if you have this problem then i will tell you how to fix it with out all the bull. my fridges water dispencer stopped working (i could hear it trying with the buzz buzz sound when i pushed the lever) and water was leaking fron the drain pan down the front door. the fridge side was warm at the top and the bottom was cooler. the freezer side was cool at top and cold at the bottom. I pull the bottom crisper drawer out of the fridge side and felt the coiled up white water line mounted to the back and it was frozen. The fix was the motherboard located on the back of the fridge. unpluged the fridge for at least a couple hours to melt any unseen ice(i know this sucks, i lost a ton of food too) 1/4 inche bolts hold a 8x10 metal plate on. take it off slowly. there will be 4 little white pointy clips that you have to squeeze with needle nose pliars, unplug the wiring harnesses(dont be scared there is not hidden clips they just un pluge pinch and pull) and call the local appliance parts store with the model number. should be about 170 bucks. put it back in /(every thing will only plug in where it goes so dont worry about crossing wires) and you'll be good to go in a few hours.I hope this helped. It worked for me and i save myself over 200 in cash for service calls. takes longer to go get the part the it does to repar the problem. good luck.

When the refrigerator is running ( cooling mode ) the defrost timer contacts prevents any power from getting to the defrost heater. When the defrost timer turns off the power to the compressor and fan motor(s) the power is then redirected to the defrost system. The defrost timer motor
During a defrost cycle, the defrost heater causes the metal alloy in the switch to warm and as it does it curls back and breaks the circuit. As the metal cools, it makes a closed circuit again. A defective thermostat can prevent the defrost heater from coming on or allow it to overheat which could result in heat damage or fire.
The defrost thermostat is located near the defrost heater and is wired in series. It is usually located at the back of a side by side freezer, behind the freezer back wall of a top freezer or under the floor. It will be necessary to remove obstructions such as the contents of the freezer, freezer shelves, icemaker and the inside rear or bottom panel of the freezer. At room temperature the defrost thermostat is an open circuit ( no continuity ) and when cooled down the defrost thermostat closes the circuit ( has full continuity ) to allow the defrost heater to come on.

Tips for a great answer:

Set your Ref/Freezer per the following:
Refrigerators: 36 to 40 degrees. Ideal temp is 37 Fahrenheit. Note: A temp above 42 degrees promotes bacteria.
Freezer: temp should be -5 to 6 degrees Fahrenheit. Ideal temp is 0 degrees.
You have to wait about 4 hours for everything to stabilize. If you are still having ice forming inside the freeezer then the rubber seal around the door is probably the problem. If they have a split, tear or crack, etc. it will let warm moist house air into the freezer and turn to ice as it cools. If this happens in the refrigerator it'll turn to water and collect in the bottom of the frig. New seals can cost around $60 per door.
If you pack too much food in the unit it may also cause freezing because the air needs to move around in there and food shouldn't block the vents in the back walls of the unit.
Hopefully this helps..
