It plays normal DVD's just fine, but it will not play the Blu-Ray games. The weird thing is it plays Blu-Ray movies????

  • golden420 Feb 26, 2009

it is no longer under warranty, so I guess I'll open it up myself. If cleaning it doesn't work, how do I go about buying/replacing the blu-ray laser?

  • golden420 Feb 26, 2009

will do, thank you very much!!!

PLaystaion will not play blue ray based games, but will play blue ray movies. Ive already gone through the cleaning process several times. it was working, but no longer works, when i last did it, the play station paid me back, by not ejecting the disk. Finally got it to eljct and accept disk but now it refuses to read the blue ray games again and the lens cleaner nor a good mist of computer cleaner i shelping, where before it usually worked. Any suggestions, or locations that can either solve the issue or replace the lens?

    Thanks!

My sons playstation had this problem and having spoke to a SONY rep, this was the cure.
1. Ensure there are no discs in the drive.
2. turn off PS3.
3. Connect controller with USB cable.
4. On the console press and hold the power button until a third beep is herd then let go. The PS3 should be showing a red light (OFF)
5. Again, press and hold the power button. You should hear two single beebs and then two beebs together. On the two beeps together, let go of power button.
6. The green light should be on and six options should be on the screen. select the THIRD option.
7. Follow the on screen instructions.
This fixed the issue. Apparently the files can get a little corrupted and following the above corrects the issue.
I hope this helps

Gotcha! This is a very common problem with the PS3. The number one problem to be exact.

There are a number of things you can try but majority of the time the blu-ray laser needs to be replaced. Yours sounds like a good client for just a normal cleaning though.

If it's under warranty still, use your warranty. If not then I'd recommend taking apart your PS3. Just follow my guide. I just wrote it up the other day so it's version 1.0

As soon as I get a little time I'll update with videos, pics and the whole nine yards.

I'm working on a detailed guide with pictures right now. Give me a couple of days and then check my website.

    Best of luck!

Most digital inputs are assignable, so go to set-up menu on your receiver and make sure the optical port (opt1 , opt2, etc.) is assigned to the input (vcr, aux, etc.) that you want switch to to listen to the PS3. You may also need to go into the PS3 settings menu and turn the optical to output the Dolby Digital signal. You have to do this with most DVD players, too.

PS3 is backwards compatible with PS2 games, and USED to play them

In Playstation Store, you should download (for free) the PS2 SYSTEM DATA (something like this).
if you have formated your system, the files were erased, and the games won't play until you download the backwards comparibility files again.

Games on Full HD

if you have a full hdtv then providing you set the playstation up in the settings menu to 1080p and use a hdmi cable then everything you play will be in hd (except ps1 and 2 games) but you can select to upscale these. all blu rays and ps3 games will be in full hd.

PS3 - tv says no signal

You need to change the resolution output on your PS3 to match the capabilities of your TV. If your TV is not HD you can't leave the PS3's video output on HD. SCART is for european television connections. Have you tried using component cables? Have you tried changing your tv's source to Video 1 or Component 1 or HDMI or anything that might work? Good luck!!

Japanese Ps3 not playing American games

It's because your trying to play american games on a japanese system. See the japanese system is different because of not only how much Power it needs to function (I'd be wary about that btw) as well that a Japanese PS3 can only play Japanese PS3 games. American games wont work for it.
