The Officejet is stuck on SelfTest and stopped working

Self test is there to test the unit- do a self diagnosis and test the functions of the machine before it is operational, if it gets stuck at one of the test or one of the tests fail then the unit is inoperative until the fault is fixed.

What you can try is taking the power cord out from the unit while its stuck wait 2 minutes and plug it back in.

if the issue remains then there are 3 resets that you can try

partial reset
semi full reset
full reset

here are the partial reset instructions
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?lc=en&dlc=en&cc=za&docname=c00060793

the two other resets are, same as the partial reset but the 3 is replaced with a 6 for semi full reset and 9 for a full reset.

if the problem remains after this then you have a hardware problem, take it to a repairer.

Same self-test then shut down problem

As with all electronic devices their . . . . electronic. Which means they will malfunction at some point in time. In your case, it was sooner than later. I'm on my second HP printer in five years. You may need a new systemboard which is not worth fixing. It will cost you more money to have the printer fixed than it's worth. Your better off buying a new printer. Most of these officejet printers don't last more than 6 to 8 years. You can try the HP OfficeJet 6210 troubleshooting site.
