Black box on bottom of screen only when playing DVDs

There is a black box on the bottom of the screen when we play DVDs. We can watch TV (digital cable) with no problems. Any advice? Can this be fixed or is there a setting that can make the box go away? When we press the menu button to make adjustments, the box goes away momentarily, but reappears within seconds of backing out of the menu screen. Thanks in advance!

I cannot believe it, but it worked!! When our baby was first born, we were afraid of waking him with the tv, so we used cc sometimes... and I guess somehow we forgot to turn it off. It did not affect TV, just DVD playback. The funny thing is, we even bought a new DVD player thinking it was the problem! Anyway, thank you so much!!!

Go to the "Bose" menu screen viewing on your TV (make sure no dvd is in the player) Go to your Video controls and check your output, chances are, if your using the component output your player is set to "S-Video". Should fix the problem. Hope this helps. If it's still not viewing correctly, post a comment and I will help you some more

Black rectangle at bottom of screen when playing dvds on sony dvd player

Had the same problem but was able to fix it by simply doing the following:
"this is closed captions turned on your TV. get your original TV remote and look for a button that says "Captions" or "CC", and keep pressing it until the TV says "Off". if it doen't have one of those buttons, you will need to get into the menu of the TV and turn off closed captions there. It is probably set on "Text1 or Text 2" right now, and it needs to be set on "Off"

Black box showing up while viewing DVDs

This sound like a problem with the Closed Caption, on many sets if the C.C. is set to text a black box apears, and since it only happens on DVD you might look at the DVD menu and see if it has this Text featcher in the Closed Caption menu and turn it off

Black box showing up while viewing DVDs

Go to your TV remote, in the menu find the closed caption or sometimes it is on the remote itself. Turn off the closed caption. this should solve your problem. Good Luck

Black Screen

Ok, this is probably what has happened, you say that you have played games on your tv, well the thing is with HD and Plasma Screen tv's is that when you play Hi-Res games on them the games backdrop will burn itself into the screen, causing the screen to turn dark and not reveal the correct picture it should. People need to learn about this!!!!! Playing games on HD and Plasma tv's will screw up your resolution!!!

Playing back widescreen problem

The TV itself uses the CTC203 chassis and is not capable of switching between normal and widescreen. This is an issue with your DVD player and not a problem with the TV.
