Question about Sharp Actius MC24 Notebook

1 Answer

Sharp notebook can only be repaired by Sharp, according to Sharp

I have a Sharp PC-MC24 notebook. It needs one small part (DC plug). Sharp will not sell a part or even give a part number. The only way to repair is to send it in to them for the repair. I am a laptop repairman. I already have the machine torn down ready for the part, but I can not get the part. That will be the last product I buy from Sharp. They are not customer friendly.

    Thanks!
It goes to a Sharp PC-MC24 Notebook. It's called a DC power board.

I was going to replace the whole board, but it seems I may not be able to find one. I will take your suggestion on looking at power jacks. Thanks a lot!

What does the jack look like? Can you post a pic?

I'm pretty good with finding ones that are compatible.

    Does yours look like this?

OK, try taking a look at the different jacks on this website:

    dcpowerjacks.net

The color of the jack (yellow) doesn't matter. It's more about the size of the center pin and the arrangement of the "leads".

If you find a jack that has extra stuff you can always remove the shield like the picture I posted.

That's about as far as I can take you on this one.

You could also send an email to dcpowerjacks.net to see if they can recommend one for you.

Were you trying to replace the entire board or just the jack?

How do I fix a power plug that has come loose inside and does not allow the pc to charge?

You have to disassemble the case and re-solder the power connector to the motherboard. Some can be re-soldered, if the board is not damaged too severely. If the board is too damaged, it may not be economically repairable. You man be able to find the instructions for disassembly on the web.

If it under warranty I would take it back to them.

Hi Jonirik,

Perhaps you can try determining if the laptop's problem is either the LCD display panel, the video card or the CCFLamp. If you can then maybe repairs can be done locally in Palau and you can source parts online.
If the unit powers up and goes through the motion of booting:
1. to determine if LCD Panel Display - connect the laptop to an external monitor. You may need to press Fn + F? key to activate and view display on the external monitor;
2. to determine if CCFLamp (and/or inverter) - power up the laptop and shine a flashlight obliquely to the screen. If you can see some semblance of display/desktop, no matter how slight/dark, then the backlight (CCFLamp) and/or the inverter is the problem; and/or
3. If there is no result on #1, then it is possible that the video card is the problem. In some instance, it could be memory, motherboard or something internal to the unit.

As to your other concern, I made inquiries but it would seem that Sharp Phils. doesn't accept laptop repairs. Nonetheless, most incoming service request are forwarded to their Service Centers.

In any case, contact information for Sharp Philippines is below:

Memory upgrade for a Sharp PC MC24

Do you have shared ram on your laptop?, i mean if the graphic card use the same ram as systems then the ram will be shared between graphic and system, however to get the good result the 512 won't be enough try 1gb to get good performance.
