Hi,
All the factory fitted CPUs are having such heat sinks as previously u were having.
Check on the backside there will be small plastic covers where screws fit these could be removed by screw driver but u can purchase that heat sink or can use previous heatsink as well if it is working.

Where do I find the 4 plastic retention clips for this heatsink?

You can't just replace the clips, you will need to purchase the entire heat sink. Contact the manufacturer's parts dept for help ordering this or buy an aftermarket one on eBay.

My Dell Inspiron 15R fan is not working....the laptop gets overheated due to this & shuts down after 15-20 minutes. The laptop has exceeded its warranty period.I had bought the laptop in May 2010.

When the CPU overheats then it will shutdown (i.e. thermal overload) and won't boot up again until it has cooled down.If this is the problem is not fixed then the CPU will eventually fail.
A faulty fan causes this problem or the fan and heat sink assembly are cloggedwith dust.
Check the CPU fan to see if it spins freely, if not replace the fan. If the fan and heat sink is clogged withdust the remove the dust and make sure the vents are clear and dust free. Use acan of compressed air to do this.

My old heat sink and fan have screw in attatchments and the new on has the plastic pop in and 1/4 turns. Help?

Your old heat sink and fan probably works just as as good or better than that stock Intel fan and heat sink. If your computer case does not allow access to the rear of the motherboard you are going to have to remove the motherboard to pull the back plate that was used to attach your old heat sink and fan. To install the Intel fan turn the pins until the screwdriver slot is perpendicular to the fan shroud (the tip of the arrow is furthest out), then push in any 2 opposite sides at the same time into the motherboard. You will here them click in. Repeat for the other 2 pins.

How to remove the cooling fan

They are usually mounted on with plastic clips, sometimes with screws. Use a small screw driver to loosen the clips on all the sides at the same time so the fan can some off.

You need to replace the fan. Measure the fan you have now and buy one the same diameter. Then remove the old fan and put in the new fan.

Have a 4wire motherboard for fan/heatsink on dell 530 inspiron

No need to buy a new fan, there are addapers to fix your problem.
Go to a good pc-store or order one from the net, the addapers are cheap to buy.

Good luck

the better the cooling you can add to the processor the cooler and better your cpu will be. the 140mm fan is a case fan, yes?
you will need to upgrade your cpu fan and heatsink.

CPUs on 45nm core are overall cooler than their predecessors on Core micro-architecture. However, the temperature different under 100% workload makes only 4-5 degrees. The thing is that Wolfdale processor core is smaller and features higher transistor density within a semiconductor die, which makes it a little harder for the heat flow to dissipate properly. That is why Wolfdale and Conroe heat up almost identically in idle mode. As for the relatively low temperature of AMD Athlon 64 X2 6400+, with twice as high TDP as that of Core 2 Duo actually, it can be explained by the not very best location of the on-die thermal sensor that is situated quite far from the hottest spots of the processor’s semiconductor die.

My lap top is extra ordinary heated after some time.what is problem?

You didn't mention if you had a laptop or a desktop. But on a laptop there is a small fan on the power supply that cools the CPU and all inside. The laptop must always be used on a flat surface like a table to ensure the air is circulating properly. Putting it on your lap or on your bed will cause it to heat more than usual. Yes they do get hot, the tempature is monitored by your BIOS and will automatically shut down if it gets too hot, this is to save the CPU from being damaged. As long as things are working properly then you are ok.

Cooling fan Dell Dimension 3000

That is the correct way. It is a newer design that keeps the hot air from the CPU heatsink out of the case. 35C is a good temp.
