Question about GE Profile PSW26P Stainless Steel Side by Side Refrigerator

GE Profile Side By Side Melting Ice but still freezing lower half

I have a GE Profile Arctica side by side. The top quarter of the freezer is above 32 degrees. I know that because all the ice in the ice maker has melted and icicles are forming down below. This happened once before, about 2 months ago. We emptied out the freezer, got rid of all the icicles and it started working again. My guess is that there is a circulation issue, but I don't remember there being a fan in the freezer. Can someone give me a suggestion?

We also have the GE Arctica; The ice in the bin melts, and the items in the crisper drawers freeze ( lettuce, whole carrots,etc.). We have to remove all items and put them into the old Frigidaire, unplug the Arctica and let it sit for about 8 hours, then plug it up and it will run. This last time we vacuumed the condensor housing, and cleaned the evaporator tube. It froze up again 6 days later. Could this be a sensor problem? or the motherboard's shot? We've had the fridge for 3 years, and it started this problem about 10 months ago.

GE Profile Side by Side Fridge which is almost 3 years old. We had a power outage for 3 days. Ice maker sometimes does not produce ice and sometimes only a few cubes. Then the cubes start to melt and icicles form in the back of the ice reservoir.

What can I do before I spend $$ for a technician to check ?

Mine is doing this as well, I now have to put everything that I want to freeze in the lower half and not use to upper half. Is this the evaporator fan motor?

SOURCE: I have a GE Profile Arctica side by side. The top

There is a fan in the freezer, in the evap area. If fan is not working (check by opening door, holding in on door switch(s) and wait a few min. and see if it come on) then either fan is shorted or ice buildup is blocking fan blade.

This refrig has a problem at times with defrost heater, check this by seeing if there is frost buildup on rear inside wall of freezer. I would suspect that this is your problem. If frost is building up on rear wall then no air will circulate within freezer or frig.

Hi yes the flap will cause the frost, you need to replace the solenoid that controls that flap, if this is a side by side, the solenoid is behind the dispenser controls on the freezer door, you take off the control board, and then remove the little mount behind that it has 4 screws and you will see solenoid on right side, it needs to be replaced.

This could be a fan motor problem. Check to see if the fans are running and if not take a look at this page http://www.appliance-repair-it.com/refrigerator-fan-motor.html

If the compressor is not running this page will help http://appliance-repair-it.com/GErefrigeratorrepair.html

There could be a defrost problem, look on the back wall of the freezer to see if it is covered with heavy frost. If so your problem is that it is not defrosting. This page will help http://appliance-repair-it.com/GE-refrigerator-repair.html

Had a problem similar to this with this frig and the problem was a bad mother board that kept the fans from operating correctly to disperse the temperature. I woould actually get stalagtites forming from the warmer top shelves to the colder lower shelves. Repaire under extended warantee.

GE Profile Arctica PSS25SGNA BS Icemaker is not working seems to be filling with water but no ice.

The water dispenser and ice maker side run separate sides of the water control valve. Fill ice maker with tap water and let it freeze. If it dumps the ice then does not refill then the water control valve is the problem. I will be back soon with a photo and some links, Thanks, Sea Breeze

Greetings,

This freezer coil is likely froze over. this is because its stopped its automatic defrost. The thing to do is remove freezer panal and see if evaporator is froze over. if so, derost it..this will give you temp service. there is a fan midway in freezer..its possible its not running as well and this is the problem. see if fans coming on while you have it apart.

GE GSS25LSMFBS IS FINE IN THE FREEZER SIDE BUT FREEZES IN THE REFRIGERATOR SIDE.

Sounds like you need to adjust your airflow into the frig compartment. There are two adjustments for air flow on a side/side one at top next to thermostat and one at bottom next to crisper. If your freezer is working properly like you say then you just simply need to balance the airflow to get the proper temp of just above freezing to 40 degrees
