Question about Audio & Video Receivers

Hi Have a SHARP MD (Mini Disk Recorder) and Cd Player, model No MD MX20H The machine will not Turn on; Everytime the power button is depressed it comes on for 2 seconds and switches its self off. I consulted the manual and it told me to press two buttons in conjuction with the on off button (to clear Timer Menu). This did work for approx 10 mins as it stayed on as I put in a cd and a message said "NO DISK". I did try several other CDs still no joy, then it switched off and ... back to square one ... ANY IDEA? Andy

    The message displays NO DISC
Indicates that you need to clean the lens . The laser head is not detecting the cd you are inserting.
Also you mentioned it is switching off it may be due to bad or defective laser head shorting the fuse in the player causing it to shut off .

look for a small hole near the front of the cd drawer, use a pen to push the small button inside, and the disk should come out. some cd recorders don't have the button, but they are inside, you need to open the case to get at it and the push it to eject the cd/dvd one other thing you might try, is to unplug the unit from the wall (power) and then plug it back in, when it first powers up, push the eject button and it may come out then

Thats a Sony medium. You're going to need a mini disk player. I would suggest checking ebay. There are a few different models available.

If this problem occurs only at this cd/dvd it's a disk problem. If it occurs on various disks try using a cd/dvd cleaner set, a wet one is better. Follow the instructions on the set. The main idea is to put one drip of the included liquid at the set (usually isopropyl alchohol) at a specific place (like small brush) on the disk surface and play this disk. This way the "brush" will clean up the laser lens and after that the cd/dvd player will be able to read the disks. BE CAREFULL not to put too much liquid on the "brush". In case this don't solve your problem, the cd player needs laser lens replacement by a technician.

There's possibly some leakage internally.

Do you have a normal (Playback only) CD player on the MD/CD-R input? It's supposed to support a RECORDING device as you can see by the OUT (REC) connections. A recorder would have shielded cables there and maybe the circuitry is such that ungrounded/unshielded output to the recorder allows a leak of the FM, which is developed inside the receiver.

Since you know that FM is leaking why don't you just selct some other idle source before selecting MD/CD-R? Have you also heard, say, the DVD, if it is playing when you select MD/CD-R?

Or skip the analog route entirelzy and run digital cables from your CD player to one of the Digital Inputs, if you have a spare one. They're all functionally the same. I guarantee the FM won't get in that way.
