There is no relative link between charger and touchpad. However, the universal charger needs to be of the same specs MHz/amp [or usingtheir pin adapter] to ensure all components receive the proper amount of voltage. This maybe the center of your problem. If we had the last series of numbers assist better or you can review the back of the original power unit and check its specifications against the universal adapter. You want to avaoid an overload condition here.

Try going to Control Panel - Hardware and sound - mouse. Once you have the menu for the mouse open, go to device settings. Click settings, and all of the advanced controls for the functions of your mouse pad can be found there.

If your new adapter is not compatible with your Acer Aspire in voltage and current, your laptop maybe can't work well. Check your new adapter and ensure if it is the same with the original adapter.

If the left mouse button is not working, then it is most likely the microswitch in the button has failed. To fix, you will need to replace the palmrest assembly

Dell inspiron I6400 touch pad is not working

Unless there is not a hardware switch and the only manufacturer that I know of that did that was Compaq/HP about 5 or so years ago. Typically there are no drivers to be installed for a mouse (touch pad) as a generic set is in the driver library of the operating system. 9 times out of 10 it is a hardware failure. With that being said, if it has warranty send it in, if it does not, (although it may just be a loose connection or the touch pad itself) most repair shops are going to run anywhere from 150 - 300 dollars just to crack it open. Best option is to get a small USB mouse, unless you just really want the touch pad.
