Hi there.
It depends on the model ant type of PC, here's a couple of examples:
boot machine, hold down the‘Esc’ key, then press F1 or
Boot the system up and hold down the ‘F2’ key.
with some newer models all you can do is reset the bios to defaults

good luck and thanks for using Fixya!!

    Hi there
Remove the side panel from the desktop and clear the cmos >>> move
the plastic jumper to the other position, and turn the machine on, if
nothing happens, you have cleared the cmos, put the jumper back in its
original position and see it the PC boots. If there is no Jumper, take the battery out for an hour, or short the battery contacts
Remember to remove the power cord before you take the side panel off.
Post back with the results please

Good luck and thanks for using Fixya!!

How do i enter setup in AST PREMIUM/286 WITH PHOENIX 80286 ROM BIOS VERSION 3.02?

Some older 286's bios don't have user setup on the chip. You have to write to the chip using software. Search for gsetup.exe, copy it to a dos boot disk and run it.

My toshiba satellite pro/ 415cs laptop wont start up / says it needs a setup disk

If you are using the OEM operating system from Toshiba, use the disc which came with the laptop. But if you are using a retail operating system from Microsoft, use operating system setup disc.

You can attempt to use the appropriate disc to repair corrupted files. Take note that some Operating system files are unrepairable which leads you to installing the whole operating system.

Hope this helps.

I can not get it to install into my computer

It is possible your Antivirus is blocking the install of this older program.
Usually you can disable the antivirus, install the program, and then re-enable your antivirus.

If you know how to view your disk in Windows Explorer, you can 'Right Click' on the setup file (often setup.exe) and choose 'Run As Administrator'. This allows your computer to update files that it would normally restrict

The last thing to try is to Right-Click that same file and choose 'Properties' (at the bottom). You'll then see this window:

but the program name will be setup.exe or whatever you clicked on. Choose the Compatibiilty tab near the top. You'll see
Check / click the box for 'Compatibility Mode', and choose Windows XP like I did in the picture above. Then click Apply, the OK.

Try your install again!

Hope this helps, all the best to you,

Install WinXP from USB in Toshiba NB100

Depending upon your CMOS you will get the option of going to CMOS setup by pressing a particular key. I don't know yours wether it is Del key or Alt plus F12 or something else just look closely for it on the first black startup screen. Once you are inside your CMOS setup just go to the Advanced chipset settings and select first boot device as your USB. Now your main worry is which USB you are connecting your pen drive to. So if in CMOS you get many USB options then select one of any and keep on changing till you get the line boot through usb or boot through external media. Also keep in mind boot through other devices shall be enabled. Now save the settings and exit. If you require any further assistance just ask for it.
Thankyou for using free utlity at fixya.

To fortmat the whole computer, you either need a windows installation cd or recovery media that came with the computer.

if you don't have either you need to get your hands on the correct windows installation disc or take the computer to a professional who has the disc and can do it for you.

if you get the disc, you will need to start from the installation cd (just insert it in the drive and press a button when asked) continue with the setup and when the hard drive part comes, delete all the partitions and then press enter to install into the empty space, now the setup will format the hard drive and after that is done it will install windows.

when windows is installed you will need drivers for your laptop.
you should find them from

Let me know if you need anything else.

Adobe Photo Deluxe 2.0

Go into the PhotoDeluxe2.0 CD ROM file list, right click on setup.exe and then go to the compatability tab. Select Win 98/ME. Hit OK. Then double-click on setup.exe. Program should install on Vista. Then find setup.exe on your hard drive, and set the compatability to Windows 98/ME. Program runs, but says something about not being able to load 16-bit driver. Just cancel out of that popup window. Program works fine...for far.
