The heaters for the tank in the AM14 I'm working on are energized only during the wash cycle (and maybe rinse cycle too--I didn't check). But when the unit is idle (meaning while waiting for another load of dishes), and with normal tank water level, the heaters are off, and come on again only during the wash cycle. Is this normal? If so, I would wonder how effective they would be in heating the water. With such a short wash cycle, the wash water's temperature drops. (PS: checked the heaters & they are all receiving normal power when the contactor is energized.)
-   Yup, it's an AM14. The incoming water temperature is low (about 120 deg) & that's why I'm wondering why the heater contactor is only energized during the (relatively short) wash cycle. Between wash sessions the tank is not drained, and I'm told (but have not personally observed) that the temperature stays around 97 degrees.
During the rinse cycle the display shows what appears to be the correct water temperature (about 135 degrees) so I don't think there's a problem with the display or the rinse thermistor. And the actual tank water temperature seems to be displayed correctly, so I'm ruling out any malfunction in the sensors or display.
I don't know the history of the previous owner. It's possible that he had a booster heater, so this wasn't a problem. Somehow I'm wondering if the tank heater temperature scheme can be adjusted? -   Guest
