Question about Linksys Wireless-G Broadband Router

1 Answer

I tried to secure my Linksys Wireless-G Broadband Router last night and set it up to require a password by going to 192.168.1.1. I also did something(I can't remember what) on the linksys website that made the status of my router 'secured' but then I lost connectivity. It kept asking me for a network key and I don't know what that is!! Can anyone help me? Is there any way to actually work on it without an internet connection?

Okay, you just jogged my memory. I actually changed the settings from the default to a WPA. I was not connected to the network cable when I made these changes. Can I fix them now?

    Thanks!! I'll try that!!

When configure security, is better to connect to network cable. Because once u setup the wireless key such as WEP or WPA, u will be log out from the wireless connection and u need the correct key to login.

Well, if u already setup WPA key to secure your wireless, u can access the wireless network by inserting the correct WPA key.
But, if u forget the WPA key, then u can connect the router using network cable and reset the wireless security...
Other than that, u can also reset your router, there is a small hole for reset to factory default... Just put a pin inside...

Router password security

When you set your router up to connect to your broadband you had to access the router through your web browser.
Do the same again and then check the Wireless section and follow the instructions on screen.

Adding a password

The normal method of accessing the LinkSys router is by going to your computer browser (IE or FireFox) and where the web address goes put http://192.168.1.1 Hitting the link in this post should actually bring it up.

The default setting for the LinkSys is blank for the user name and "admin" without the quotes for the password. That should bring up your router configuration application in your browser.

Click on the "Wireless" tab first, and then the "Wireless Security" sub-tab second.

There you should find your security key and the type of security setup on the router. This would be what you need to duplicate for your Netgear wireless phone.

If your settings aren't as they come by default, you can defualt the entire unit and reset it up, but hopefully that won't be necessary (only would be required if you just flat can't get to the admin panel of the router).

Hope that helps!

My router is locked

Go to the computer that the router is connected to and access the settings. (192.168.1.1) Go to a link where you can restoer the factory settings. Do it and shut down everything. Power everything on in this order. (Wait 1 minute between them)
1. modem
2. router
3.computer
4. other network devices

Then try to connect all of the devices to the network. Then set the router to your personal settings.
