Use the Shooting Mode button. It's the button in front of the "AF" button. Push repeatedly until you see an icon similar to a single-handed clock. Then press the shutter and run into the frame (remember to say "cheese")!

Inadvertanly set delay and can't figure out how to get it back to the original setting.

Repeatedly press the shooting mode button on the upper-right side of the camera (marked with overlapping rectangles) to select the desired shooting mode. If that doesn't work, hold down the button and turn the main command dial (on the back) to cycle through the modes.

The available modes are Single frame (letter "S" in a rectangle), Continuous (overlapping rectangles), Self-timer (one-armed clock), Delayed remote (self-timer above remote), and Quick-response remote (remote).

I got a remote for my D80 how do i get it to work?

Set the Release mode on the camera to one of the remote modes by holding down the release mode button on the right of the camera (the one with the remote and the clock-like self-timer icons) and turning the command dial on the back of the camera. The two choices are Quick-response, where the camera takes a picture when you press the button on the remote, and Delayed-response, where the camera waits two seconds while you hide the remote behind your back before taking a picture.

Look in the camera manual under "Choosing a Shooting Mode" and "Using a Remote Control". They are on pages 36 and 38 of my copy of the D80 manual, yours may differ.

Trying to figure out how to use the timer on my Nikon Coolpix S570

Press the self-timer button (left of OK).

Press up or down to choose either two second or ten second delay.

Frame the picture and press the shutter release halfway to set focus and exposure.

Press the shutter button the rest of the way. The self-timer starts, the remaining number of seconds shows on the display, and the self-timer lamp blinks.

After the picture is taken, the self-timer reverts to OFF.

To cancel the self-timer, press the shutter release button again.

Fuller details can be found in the manual under "Taking Pictures with the Self-timer."

How do I disable the shutter release button noise?

In Menu mode, Beep is the second item (first is Reset) on the Custom Settings -- the pencil symbol on the left. Only two choices, on or off, for all uses of the beep. That means if you set it to Off it won't ever beep, even for stuff like the self-timer countdown.
