Fan error means that one of the fans inside the computer has failed and is no longer working causing the system to overheat. to solve this you must replace the fan that isn't working. you should try going to your local computer hardware store and ask them to fix the problem.

Your system fan has died and need to be replaced. You can look in your bios for a setting to ignore fan speeds, you may or may not have one depending on your bios. But be careful, if you can bypass the fan error, you risk causing harm to your computer by overheating the processer.

When i boot up the laptop i get a message 'Main Fan Error' the fan runs on start up then stops just before i get the error message. Fan will not restart... Joseph

Hi,

This message means that the fan on your CPU (processor) is failing or has failed. This is not good because if the fan on the CPU fails your CPU will overheat and cause your machine to lock up and become non-functional till it cools down and then the same cycle will repeat till the fan is replaced.

Let me know,if needed further assistance.

Hope i helped you.

Thanks for using ' Fixya ' and have a nice day!!

Intel D865GVHZ (Gateway Hazelton) motherboard system cooling fan

This fan error message shows up when the CPU fan is not plugged into the CPU FAN plug on the motherboard. The Intel D865GVHZ
motherboard has a total of 4-fan plugs so it is easy to plug the CPU fan into one of the other fan plugs that is not marked CPU FAN on the motherboard.

When i login my system it says cpu fan error. i replaced with the working cpu fan of same model and processor but still the problem arises

i'm not entirely sure from your description what you did, but one thing i've noticed is that unless your replacement fan uses the same on board power connection that your original one uses, your PC will think you don't have one installed.

as long as its functioning properly, you can disable this error message in the BIOS.

hope this helps

Fan Error on IBM T41

This is normally the CPU fan - is it working?
Is it connected to CPU fan socket on mainboard or a different socket - it must be connected to correct socket or fan will not be detected?
