Call in a repair man, it shouldn't cost that much. Yes, your food will be effected without that plastic door, as the drawer has controls and cold settings just for deli items. You need a special glue for cold. I'd call in a repair man, or order a new drawer replacement from the manufacturer.
My GE Fridge did the same and the repair man I called said there is a little drain hose that goes from the top to the bottom of the Fridge at the rear see if that hose is plugged. I unfastened it at the top and blew air through it and the water is no longer a problem.
We just had this same problem and thought is was our ice maker leaking. Turns
out there is actually a small drain hole on the bottom of the freezer where
condensation and such goes. Take out your bottom drawer/shelf and look in the
back of the freezer. Ours was plugged up and frozen over. We called a repair
man and he came out with a steamer and cleaned it out, there was some lint
clogging it up. If you are handy or have a steamer (we didn't) you could probably do it yourself. I think we paid the repair man $65 to fix it. It now
works fine. Much cheaper than getting a new fridge. Another possibility is that The water is from condensation. If the water from it is draining onto your
floor, then that indicates that your refrigerator is not level. You have to
adjust the legs on the bottom until the fridge is level. After that, the water
should drain the way it's supposed to & not end up on your floor. Hope this
