Question about Gigabyte 7VT600P-RZ (GA7VT600PRZ) Motherboard

1 Answer

I'm using a set-up with a Gigabyte 7VT600P-RZ motherboard, Athlon Sempron 2300+ CPU, and an Nvidia 7900 graphics card. It's been running fine for several years, but has faced increasing problems with booting up Windows XP recently, regularly dropping to the CHKDSK diagnostic screen. Last night, after another such diagnostic screen, it began a cycle of reboot, get to the Windows loading screen, flash up a. BSOD too quickly to read, then reboot once more. Turning it off for the night, I switched it on again this morning, but now there is nothing happening - power goes through all the components, drives spin up to speed, but there is no output to the monitor, and no boot-up 'beep' - it just sits in that limbo state. Is this a recoverable problem, or has my system finally given up?

unseating and reseating the RAM has allowed it to boot once more, but am unable to progress beyond the windows loading screen - still getting the flashed up BSOD, then back to boot-up.

Check the motherboard for bulky capasitors or leaked capasitors, and begin with disconnecting everything that isn't needed for the computer ot function (cpu, fans, motherboard, 1 memory module, video card)

These components are required for the computer to function - cpu, fans, motherboard, 1 memory module, video card.

so disconnect everything else and see if theres any improvement.

If there is no improvement, remove all the ram from the computer.

Then try starting up without any ram, the computer should beep.

(remember to unplug the computer when your taking parts out or in)

Now, replugin one ram module and try starting up again. Does it beep? do you get video?

If you don't next, lets reseat the video card, remove the video card from the computer and start it up without a video card, does it beep?

Turn it off again and reinsert the video card, try starting up again. Results?

Ones you have done all this use the add a comment link below to let me know how its going, reposting will get another expert.

Keep tapping f8 before the windows xp logo comes up, then from the advanced start up options select disable automatic restart on system failure.

Now when you get the bluescreen again can you tell me the Details it gives you? or possibly you could take a picture of it?

Take same hardware like CPU and RAM in to consideration. Make sure these are compatible. This is where a whole new system takes root.

Clear cmos, you should have a clear cmos jumper on your motherboard, just move the jumper from the normal position to the clear cmos and then back. Or you can remove the lithium battery for atleast 15 min.

Any. I got old one amd processor of 1,2 Ghz and I am looking around what I can do before I done this old pc to my kids. motherboard is 7vt600p-rz of gigabyte

Windows 2000 SP4 will run faster on it, if it is with XP. Win 98Se is just a sadistic idea. As for hardware, nothing cost-effective imho. SDRAM is really expensive, even if you have a free slot. This CPU will not utilize more than 512MB/1GB anyway. Even if faster CPU is supported, it is probably not worth again. Still, check on e-Bay if you enjoy the upgrade. Overclocking is not the strong side of AMD. But if you ask around your friends and get a RAM or CPU, or HDD at 7200 rpm for the OS (yours might be 5400 rpm), which they will never use for low or no price, things change. You can also do a fresh install.
