To fix the problem
Disable the S.M.A.R.T error detection feature in the CPUCool program or similar utility.
Boot to the Windows 2000 or XP installation CD, and at the Startup menu, press R for repair.
In the Recovery Console, type the following:
chkdsk /p
When the CHKDSK process has finished, reboot the computer.
Run the program again.
The error should no longer be reported unless you start using the S.M.A.R.T error detection feature again.

Error occurs with PartitionMagic 8.0
If you encounter Error 1516 with PartitionMagic 8, first run CHKDSK /F on the affected partition. For instructions on how to run CHKDSK, read How to Run Microsoft's CHKDSK from the Command Line. If this does not fix the error, try running PartitionMagic with the /IFC switch, which causes file system errors to be ignored.
To run PartitionMagic with the /IFC switch
Boot from the first PartitionMagic rescue disk.
When you are prompted to insert the second rescue disk, press Ctrl+C to drop to the command (A:>) prompt.
Insert the second PartitionMagic rescue disk and type the following:
pqmagic /ifc
Press Enter.
please go ahead and try the above steps may be it will fix it

Hey, need to rescue your RAW PC hard disk partition data back? OK! Never panic! I do have ever had a RAW format USB hard disk issues and need rescue the left drive information before any format. After searching much related RAW file system drive information online, I do know the RAW file system external drive data recovery software is able to rescue the data before any drive format.
Therefore, after trying many related software, I do have recovered most of my original drive information back.
You'd better also read similar drive data recovery information here:
CHKDSK error message says the type of the drive file system is RAW
Good luck!

Tip

Coping with and avoiding Hard Drive Volume Bit-map Errors

If your computer "locks up" or reboots itself, the problem is frequently lost or corrupted files on your hard drive. Most of the time the problem can be corrected by running chkdsk. However, one of the exceptions is when chkdsk reports that the hard drive has volume bitmap errors.
To run chkdsk, click on Start, All Programs, Accessories and Command Prompt. This will open a "DOS Box" where you can enter DOS commands without the results scrolling off the screen before you can read them. Then key in chkdsk C: (assuming that drive C is the letter of the hard drive where your operating system files and applications programs are stored).
Chkdsk will run in the read-only mode and report (but not repair) problems found on your hard drive. Chkdsk will then ask you to run chkdsk with the F switch to fix the file system. Make a mental note whether or not chkdsk reported any problems with the volume bitmap, then key-in chkdsk C: /F
You will get a message that the drive will be checked (and repaired) on the next system restart.
Enter exit to close the DOS box and the restart your system. Chkdsk will run automatically when your system restarts. If no volume bitmap errors were noted earlier, chkdsk should have repaired the problems with the hard drive. You can verify this by opening another DOS Box and running chkdsk without the /F. However, if bit-map errors were reported initially, chances are they will still be there as chkdsk cannot repair them.
If you still have volume bitmap errors, you can either take your PC to a professional who may be able to repair the volume bitmap with specialized software, or you can back-up all of your data, format the hard drive, and reload the operating system and all applications.
A frequent cause of volume bitmap errors is cloning (copying) a hard drive with more than one partition to another (usually larger) hard drive. The partitions should be sized proportionately on the target drive but sometimes the partition sizes are not reported correctly in the partition table and sometimes in the master boot record.
Avoid cloning drives with multiple partitions, or if you do, immediately run chkdsk on the target drive to check for bit-map errors.

Error code 0f00:0244 during hard drive diagnotic test

the drive has developed some bad sectors on it
click start run type cmd then type chkdsk/r/f which will scan for and attempt to repair any bad sectors and automatically fix any corrupt files on your hard drive or
click start control panel administrive tools, computer management ,disk management right click on your drive select properties click tools you should see click check now click start two boxes automatically fix files and scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors place then a tick in both boxes then select check now, start should schedule this task when restart
do not do anything while the chkdsk utility is in progress any input may damage your computer
then defragment your hard drive
or you could download partition magic
when you download partition magic you will have the option to make rescue to disks to boot from make these disks then change your first boot device your to floppy drive this will give you options to partition then partition only the good sectors of your hard drive and install an operating system to the good partition Partition Magic 8.0 Partition Magic 8.0

What are you trying to do or accomplish? Are you wanting to format it, access the data on it, or something else? Have you tried formattting it?

Does "to partitions" actually mean "2 partitions" or "two partitions" instead?

It might help if you stated how the drive got in that condition.

If you have the original Windows Install disk, you can boot off of that, choose the Recovery Console option, and once you are in the Recovery Console, run "chkdsk /r c:". The error seems to be a file system problem, so running a chkdsk could help or isolate the issue further.

I never did like norton stuff.

format the whole hard drive as one partition (not with norton)

use FDISK or similar

then to let the xp disk do its own thing

after xp is installed and running fine then run norton PM and resize to what you want for the C drive and let norton do its stuff.

you should now have C and D drives. if you want to split further use norton PM again and resize D and once again let norton do the business. you should now have C, D(but smaller) here I would use microsofts disk manager or norton toformat the last bit if thats what you did. and so on ad infinitum.

the 110 error means there is alread xp on the destination and it cannot go ahead usually if i was doing a clean install i would not have told it to leave the system intact but told it to go ahead and format (unless i was doing a repair install)
