I recently changed the cd-rom to a DVD burner. After replacing that the computer powered up and found the burner. I then was going to upgrade the memory. I removed the memory cover, but discovered the memory I wanted to use was different. I reseated the cover and the unit will not power up. I plugged in the AC plug and the unit does not charge. Please help. Thanks Phil

Your question is rather confused. As I understand is that Cd/dvd not being seen by computer. If you mean is your device, then you probably have a serious harware failure. There is a remote possibility that it is data or power cable. Check conections. If it's not, you should replace your CD/DVD device
Impossible, since your device _reads_ CDs/DVDs, but does not _write_ either CD nor DVD.
Do you have a USB memory-stick (holding 4Gbytes) ?
If so, copy the files to the memory-stick,
and take the memory-stick to your friend's computer,
presuming that his/her computer has a DVD-writer.
That DVD can be _read_ on your computer.

Well, you already have a DVD burner in your machine, and A DVD ROM refers to memory.. you just need to download the upgrades available at Compaq's website. find out which Cd/DVD burner you have by downloading a marvelous freeware program called Belafrc Advisor, which will list all hardware and sofware on your computer, compete with versions and access codes. then go to http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareList?os=228&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&product=320163&lang=en which lists all upgrades available for your model. DVD burners stopworking correctly when your non-microsoft burner program becomes corrupt, so be sure to upgrade that. If you have any problems, ask support.
if the code-10 is in device manager it usually means 1 of 2 things: 1) the drivers installed are the wrong ones 2) the cd/dvd drive needs replacing
if the drive is removable, remove it and reinsert it to see if it is just a bad connection. if it was working before and is no longer working, the drive may need replacing. if it was working before and died after a system or driver update, use "roll back driver" in the device manager properties box for the dvd drive.
