Question about Compaq Presario M2000 Notebook

1 Answer

My Compaq Presario M2000 will not power up.

I recently changed the cd-rom to a DVD burner. After replacing that the computer powered up and found the burner. I then was going to upgrade the memory. I removed the memory cover, but discovered the memory I wanted to use was different. I reseated the cover and the unit will not power up. I plugged in the AC plug and the unit does not charge. Please help. Thanks Phil

Hi im josh in cebu phils.may i help you? Friend if that happens that it will not turn on after doing such things I suggest to remove first your DVD burner and installed back your Memory.be sure it is seated firmly in its position try to see the marking on your memory and on your mainboard.then try to reboot your pc. after rebooting if it powers on so thats the time you go back again in putting back your DVD burner. Remember dont install your DVD burner unless your pc turns on to avoid misleading. try to do it bro. good luck hope i helped you.

NO.

I sort of see your reasoning, but NO.

Until I compared both units I would have stated NO.

Now that I have THANK YOU. I just learned something,

http://www.amazon.com/HP-Compaq-DC7700-DC7800-DVD-ROM/dp/B004574PEG

Referring back to the photo view, of the Compaq Presario CQ62 series of Notebook PC's DVD burner drive shown, the REAR view shows the connectors for the SATA power cable, and SATA data cable.

The connectors use the same L-shape design, and size that a SATA unit for a desktop computer, would use.

Case design looks to be similar also.

I believe you are Correct.

My computer can not detect a burner drive

Power off computer.

Take out power socket for burner drive

Make sure SATA/IDE cable is properly inserted. Clean them if they are dusty.

After powering up, make sure DVD driver is powered by opening the tray

Go in BIOS menu and see if it can detect DVD Rom there.

IF not, then you may have to check for Master/Slave config if you changed any hardware configuration recently.

Well, you already have a DVD burner in your machine, and A DVD ROM refers to memory.. you just need to download the upgrades available at Compaq's website. find out which Cd/DVD burner you have by downloading a marvelous freeware program called Belafrc Advisor, which will list all hardware and sofware on your
computer, compete with versions and access codes. then go to
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareList?os=228&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&product=320163&lang=en
which lists all upgrades available for your model. DVD burners stopworking correctly when your non-microsoft burner program becomes corrupt, so be sure to upgrade that. If you have any problems, ask support.
