Hard drive not working

Hi, I have this 2nd hd drive (8gb) that I want to add to my existing hd (4gb) main boot. But when I plug the 2nd hd as slave, the pc won't power on. Only the motherboard light works. I even tried to make the 2nd drive as the master with no slave but still nothing happens. Any idea?

Hi im josh in cebu phils.Friend if that happens whrein your 2nd hdd dont detect. Try to use these solutions. Check first the jumper of the hardisk whether it is stated as slave or master. if 2nd disk is master the jumper should be in the master and if it is slave the jumper must be slave. or try to use another IDE cable. put them as both master the first hdd in first ide slot and your 8 GB 2nd hardisk in 2nd slot as master also. or try to enter bios setup utility then try to check or detect the both device.thats all good luck

IBM T30 Start-up HD options

Why do you what to boot up from the 2nd hard drive?
If you want to boot up with a different operating system from a 2nd drive, I suggest you set up a dual boot system with the other operating system on the 2nd drive.
When you boot up you will be given a menu and you can choose which operating system you want. There is a time delay and if you don't choose a system it will default to the first operating system on the list.

Use second hard drive

The Windows operaring system is on your 1st drive (ie C drive) and if you change it to a slave drive the computer won't work.
You need to set the jumper on the 2nd hard drive as a slave drive and leave the original drive as the master drive expecially if the 2nd drive is on the same IDE controller and cable as the 1st. hard drive.
It doesn't matter if the 2nd drive is set to master or slave if it is on the 2nd controller.
When you boot up you should see both hard drives and can copy files from one drive to another.

Yes it is possible but you need to set it up as a dual boot system with XP installed on the 2nd drive (slave drive).

Pc does not power on with hard drive plugged in

When you plug in the 2nd hard drive as a single drive does the drive spin up and the computer goes through the Power on self test (POST)?
If you cannot hear the drive spin up and the computer doesn't boot up then most likely the hard drive is faulty.

2nd Hard drive not recognized

Hi,
If your using IDE hard drives i would try to put them both on the same cable on the primary IDE controller. Then set you main hard drives jumpers and the second hard drive to cable select not slave. Try to boot if the boot fails your goiong to need a Windows 98 boot floppy with FDISK. You need to start up the 98 boot disk with out CD support then when it reaches a command prompt start fdisk. ONce fdisk is up format and partition the second drive. Now it should work. :) Check that the harddrive is detected in the BIOS, it may have become disconnected, it should also be the master drive on the primary IDE. If the drive is not detected in BIOS there is little chance of it working

Thank you....

Can't boot larger than 8gb hard drive

This is a known issue at HP, you should download and install the 68P4M ROM which will solve this:

- Fixes issue where system serial number was lost after upgrade to the new BIOS.
- Fixes variation in the noise of the fan when in motion.
- Fixes error where L1 cache shows only 16KB instead of 20KB in F10 Setup.
- Fixes error where FDISK could only see 8GB of 40GB and 60GB in the Multibay Hard Drive.

Dell latitude C400 will not boot from hard drive.

Hi, This sounds like a dead hard drive. Still, you may want to try: 1. Enter your CMOS/BIOS and verify that your laptop can detect the hard drive. Further check if it is configured to boot first from the HD; 2. Slip in your XP or Recovery CD and boot from that. It may be that the boot section/files of your HD got messed up. When prompted, instruct the CD to repair; 3. Remove your laptop's HD and connect it to a 2nd PC as an external/removable drive using a 2.5 enclusore with USB attachment. Thereafter proceed to diagnose, check and hopefully recover your important files; 4. If confirmed of a defective HD, replace and reinstall your OS. Hope this be of some help/idea. Post back how things turned up or should you need further information. Good luck and kind regards.
