I got a Dell Inspiron 1525 i picked up off ebay for cheap, i wanna reset it back to factory settings, ive never had a Dell Laptop before, and i dont know what to press when she boots up to get me to the restore factory settings.
if you have windows xp then you need to turn your computer as soon as you do that before you see the windows xp logo hold down the control key and keep tapping f11 key.it should take you to the screen fro factory settings and if it is windows vista then you can go ahead and press f8 and then choose repair my computer, hit enter which will then prompt you to login in once you log in it will tell you to choose the options from the options listed below choose the one which says restore factory default...you computer will be restored to factory settings..

I have successfully restored my inspiron 1525 with the factory setting that it was shipped with. I actually used the file named factory.wim file located in d:\dell\image which is the imege file and the exe program named imagex.exe which is located in d:\tools\imagex.exe
use the switches such as typing " imagex /apply d:\dell\image\factory.wim 1 c:\ " type imagex /apply /? for help. In my case the image was located at d:\dell\image\factory.wim and i used it to restore myy laptop. First start your computer and on bios mode press F12 and use the operating system vista cd to start the computer. afterwards select "Repair my computer" and it will show the menu. In the menu the last item is command prompt. Select it. change the drive from x:\ to d by typing "d: "and press enter now from D drive try to locte the file imagex.exe which in my case is located in d:\tools\imagex.exe. Along with this file we need another file named anyname.wim which in my case was factory.wim. location was d:\dell\image\factory.wim now come to the commnd used to restore the computer to the factory settings
imagex /apply d:\dell\image\factory.wim 1 c:\ oh i forgot one thing that i formatted my C Drive using the same CD.

a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.

Tips for a great answer:
A persistent operating system error on your Dell Inspiron 1525 laptop requires more than just a system restore as there is a problem with a driver that a system restore cannot correct.
A full factory reset of the laptop wipes the hard drive clear of all data including existing driver settings and programs and installs the original operating system back to the hard drive.
Once cleared, previous computer files and programs are non-recoverable.
Press "Power" on the Inspiron 1525, and continuously press "F8" on the keyboard when the Dell logo appears on the laptop's screen.
Press the down arrow to highlight "Repair Your Computer," and press "Enter" to select the highlighted onscreen option.
Click your preferred keyboard layout, and click "Next" to continue with the laptop's restoration process.
Type "administrator" in the username field, click "OK" and click "Dell Factory Tools."
Click "Dell Factory Image Restore," and click "Next." Click the checkbox next to the hard drive reformat confirmation, and click "Next."
Click "Finish" to reboot the OS after the restore process finishes, which can take up to 10 minutes.
Hope this helps.
