Want to use my tv as a monitor, how do I activate the vga output?

Hi adiazjr. On the Asus 1000he, in order to switch to an external monitor you need to press the function key (Fn) at the bottom left of the keyboard and the F8 key at the top. When you press both of these keys at the same time it will send the video signal to whatever external monitor or TV you have connected. Hope this helps!

Any idea if I can hook my laptop up to my EDTV?

Yes, if your laptop has a VGA out port (that is the external display port - usually blue with 15 pins).
The NEC display has a VGA input on the right-hand side.
You just need a VGA cable that you plug in both connectors.
Then, read your laptop manual to determine how to activate the external display (usually the FN key with an other key that has a display icon on it).
On the NEC display, make sure it is using the RGB1 input (use the remote to activate this input).
That should do it.

NOTE: Make sure your laptop is using a reasonable screen resolution (that is 640x480 or 800x600).
