CD/DVD player doesn't read disc

The CD/DVD player on my laptop doesn't read disc. The issue is, it wasn't doing this before. Whenever I would try to play a DVD I get a message saying: "The disc cannot be played (or read). Please check the disc."

It doesn't read other discs either.

Unless it's a hardware problem, (physically damaged, replace drive), then it sounds like a driver issue. Over time drivers (the software that runs the hardware) can be corrupted, get into a compatability conflict with new programs, or lost by the system. You obviously can't reinstall the drivers from your recovery discs, but you can (usually) download them from your manufacturer's website.

In your Start menu's search, type Device Manager. Open DM and expand the + next to DVD/CD-ROM drives.

If your drive is not listed in there, then it's not installed, download it's software from your manufacturer's website.

If your drive is listed but has a CD/DVD player doesn't read disc - 9b861c0.gif next to it, then there's a driver problem. Double click the drive and note what it says under "Device Status" on the General tab. Go to the Driver tab and click "Update Driver..." Choose "Search automatically for updated driver software" and Windows will search both your computer and the internet for the proper drivers for your device.

Even if your drive is listed and it's status is "device is working properly" you may still need to reinstall the drivers. Often there can be a driver conflict that your computer is not aware of to report back. In any case, before replacing the drive you'll definately want to try fixing the drivers.

Well first of all Compact discs are easy to be read by a DVD player then ordinary Cd player cause of their lens are made for more compressed Data discs..there for try some of the options

1. make sure that the disc Surface is Clean and don't have finger prints or any other material that is disturbing the the read process between the CD and lens present inside CD player

2.if your CD is precious for you ( that consist some important Data you may need ) then try a DVD player for that

3.if both things doesn't work try a cleaning Cd for Cleaning the Head of CD player .

Dvd reading error


Try using a known-good (for instance, a movie you just watched on your TV). If it doesn't read that disc, make certain you have seated the disk in the drive properly (Laptop drives have a *CLICK!* when you have seated the disc properly). If that doesn't work- if the laptop is in warranty, get it fixed. If not, use an external drive to fulfill your media needs

Hello trying to upgrade my HCT HBR-1000BP Blu-ray Player firmware and can not figure out how. No support on HCT website. Would be thankful for any help


Where are you having a problem? I found directions on: http://hcthk.com/mall/s02.php . There were two links, one with directions and one with an arrow for downloading the needed file.

The firmware is in a zip file. First extract the files from the compressed archived. (For a Windows OS, right click on the folder and select Extract All.) If needed, open the new uncompressed folder and put a blank CD-R or CD-RW in your optical burner drive. Burn the two files from the extracted folder to the CD (drag and drop will work for any version of Windows (XP-7).) Do not include the folder, just the files. Then finalize the disc (close the session). If you are asked to format the disc, choose a mastered burn (single-session). In Windows Explorer, you can do this by right-clicking on the optical drive in Computer (My Computer) or from the menu for the drive when you double-click on it. (Alternatively, if you have your system set to finalize on eject, then choose Eject. This setting is in the drive's Properties (the Recording tab).)

Eject the disc from your computer and turn on the HBR-1000BP. Place the CD that you burned in the player. When the disc is recognized, press Play. If that doesn't work, try entering the System Menu and choosing System Update with your remote. Do not power down the unit during the update; a power failure during the update might leave you with an unusable player.

If this doesn't work, check if the Blu-ray Player reads any CDs. If it doesn't, try cleaning the laser lens with a CD/DVD lens cleaner. Then try again. The Blu-ray uses a different laser. If no disc works and the lens cleaner doesn't help, the CD/DVD laser has a tracking (alignment) issue or another problem. You'll need to get the optical drive in the HBR-1000BP replaced or fixed.

If it does read a different CD, then check if your optical disc burned and was finalized correctly. Can another optical drive read it? Try burning the files to CD on another optical drive. (If you are using an external optical drive burner, make sure that the computer is not running on battery power. Plug the external drive into two USB ports if it isn't self-powered.)

My Dvd rom can't detect any CD or DVD


Hello,
how long have you been using this player? I suspect the laser (lens) of the player. I think the laser (lens) is weak that's why it cannot read data/files on DVD discs.
To confirm if actually its a laser problem, insert an Audio CD into the player and see if will play. If it plays, then obviously, your laser (lens) is weak. But if it doesn't play Audio CD, then it might still be the laser (lens) or a mechanism problem.
Get a lens cleaner, use it to clean the lens. If that doesn't solve the problem, get a screw driver, open the player's cover so that you can gain access to the lens, use a cotton board to clean the surface of the lens. This should clean dust or dirt that might be on the lens.
If non of the above solves the problem, then know that you need to replace the laser to a brand new one.
To replace the lens, remove the bad laser, use it as a sample to get exactly the same type and do the replacement. Note that replacing a laser (lens) needs a professional touch, so if you cannot replace the laser, get it to a repairman to fix it for you.
Once this us done, your player will play all DVD discs again.

My dvd player dvp615 doesn´t play dvd discs. only music cd´s


The unit has two lasers one for the cd and one for the dvd, the one for the dvd is bad and the whole laser assembly needs replaced. Cheaper to buy a new player.... sorry

i would say for some reason your dvd player is not compatible from now on with that brand of blank dvd!


get the firmware update from the brand website all you do is download the file burnit on a cd and put it in the dvd player should fix most and eventual problems

Answer: Unfortunately this can be a difficult question to answer because of the amount of potential reasons for this issue to occur. Below is a listing of several steps and recommendations that can be taken to help identify the cause of the issue and/or resolve this issue.
Drivers Verify you have the latest drivers installed for the CD-R or recordable drive. There are numerous driver related issues that may cause a CD-R drive or other recordable to stop reading a CD-R disc. If you are running Microsoft Windows verify your drive is properly detected and listed in Device Manager with no conflicts or errors.
If Windows Device Manager detects an error on the drive or if it has other drives listed in Device Manager with errors on them remove the device from Device Manager and reboot the computer to let Windows re-initialize the drive.
If Windows shows no errors, the above steps did not resolve the issue, or you are running a different operating system check with the drive manufacturer for updated drivers. A listing of disc drivers can be found here.
CD-R disk Not all CD-R disks are compatible with all types and speeds of CD-R drives or other recordable drives (especially earlier CD-R drives). Verify the manufacturer gives 100% guarantee for supporting all drives and disc speeds, for example, TDK discs often give a 100% guarantee.
Pre-mastering/Mastering Software Pre-mastering software can sometimes produce incorrect tracks due to bugs. An incorrect ISO image could be generated, or incorrect sub header codes could be recorded in the case of Mode 2 discs. A good way to check whether the incompatibility problems lie with the originating software or with one of the other causes listed above is to test the same disc on several CD-ROM drives. If one drive is capable of reading the disc back correctly, chances are that the problem was not in the mastering, but is one or more of the other factors listed.
Disc is a recordable disc that the drive or player does not support Verify the drive supports the recordable media you are attempting to read. Below are some situations to watch out for.
  • Old CD-ROM or early DVD drive - Some early CD-ROM drives and Gen 1 DVD drives (some of the first DVD drives released) do not support CD-R discs and/or CD-RW discs. Not only does this apply to computers but also home entertainment DVD players.
  • CD-RW in CD-R or CD-ROM drive - CD-R drives are incapable of reading CD-RW drives. If you are using a CD-RW disc verify the drive is a CD-ROM or CD-R drive is capable of reading the disc.
  • DVD recordable discs - If you have a DVD recordable disc and are unable to get it to read verify that the DVD drive is not a Gen 1 DVD drive and/or that it supports reading the DVD recordable media you are using. Additionally a standard CD-ROM, CD-R, CD-RW, etc drive is not able to read DVD discs.
Disc was created incorrectly Make sure you're creating the disc properly. For example, a common mistake users make when creating audio CD's that they can listen to in their computer, car, or home stereo is burning the MP3 files or other files directly to the CD as a Data disc and not an Audio disc. All this will do is burn the data files to the disc and not create an audio disc. This may allow you to listen to the audio files in the computer but will not allow you to listen to the music in the majority of other CD players unless they support MP3 format.
Disc or DVD contains media content not supported by the player Not all home entertainment DVD players are capable of supporting and playing all the different formats movie files and audio files are stored in. Make sure the format or codec of the movie or audio file you're saving to the CD or DVD is supported by the DVD player. If you're computer is capable of playing the files off the DVD but your home entertainment DVD player is not able to play the file it's likely you're encountering this issue.
Bad disc If after reading through the above recommendations you still continue to have the same issue it's possible that the disc is a bad disc. Try re-burning the disc and if possible try a different type of recordable disc.

How can i fix my portable dvd player?


that noise sounds like the focus is trying to see the disc as it has to focus to see or register there's a disc. Maybe the turntable slipped down a little or there's dirt or film on the lens. Good luck
